Do any famous guitarists use the Marshall JCM2000?

Re: Do any famous guitarists use the Marshall JCM2000?

You also don't know what kinds of effects, double tracking, and other studio magic might be on the record.

That is true. However, if no pros use an amp that is by a big brand like marshall, and the amp is marketed as the next ideration of a high quality amps (the JCM series), it indicates that the particular amp may be below average. While you are right about effects and stuff that make the pros in the studio sound different than me practicing in my basement, and I can mod the amp, it's beside the point.

Besides, this isn't to help me buy the amp. This is just a list of people who use it.

:bigok:

You nailed it Diego. I'm aware of no pros or tone hounds who would choose the TSL over the DSL. There's a reason that DSLs are common backline amps for visiting artists and TSLs aren't.

My TSL60s are smooth. I believe these amps' tone are dependent on what kind of tubes you put in them. I'm using JJ EL34 and JJ ECC83S and they sound superb.

...and the chances of what the artist uses live and in the studio are the same amp are slim. I have seen studio shots of Jimmy Page playing through a Fender Twin, Judas Preist used solid state Marshall combos in the studio. John Scofield in known to use the house amp in a studio. The guy just goes in and plays no whinning just riffing.

Yes.

A long time ago when I really started delving into "how did they get that awesome tone on that album???", I was shocked and surprised to find out that no, just because the dude (guitarist) used "X" brand amp and "X" brand FX on stage, doesn't automatically mean (in fact more likely they didn't) that's what they used in the studio.

Combine that with the shock and surprise finding out that "hey my amp sounds great in person, why can't I get a good recorded tone???" meant it was time to study studio techniques and purchase studio gear if I wanted my recorded material to sound good.

I've always said: "what you hear on an album is an illusion".

The studio is simply another instrument, and probably the most expensive to pursue and the most difficult to master of all.

Not so sure about that. Some of the greatest recordings ever produced were made in the days before "studio magic". We have more recording tools and power on our phones than Abbey Road had when Sgt Peppers was recorded.

Real "studio magic" wasn't done with computer chips, it was done with mic placement/ blending, tinkering with gear, etc.

My point exactly. That being said you needed a good tone going in to give the engineer something to work with. If the tone was bad upfront, there was nothing post production was going to do to save it. The ability to shape, sculpt and configure a signal they way we do today was a distant dream. When I listen to an old Yardbirds album, I know what I am hearing is 99.9% Jeff Beck.

and also that totally "outdated" thing we called tape, which has some true magic itself
