some times i think so.my korean fender tyedye purlple strat has a little mojo i think.its my fave guitar, got sd pick ups, blah blah blah, but one day i was playing with my cat and got a nice deep scratch on the tip of my index finger of my left ,or fret hand.lol, any way later on in the day i was playing guitar, when i noticed my finger was bleeding, there was blood all over the fret board, yea some soaked in,but i got most of it and you really cant see any thing, but since then, that guitar just seems to fly and my fingers as well when i play it,i write most of my stuff with this guitar ,it does indeed seem to have a little mojo.i have turned down twice what i paid for this guitar.its the one im playing in the photo

Re: do guitars have mojo?

Cool thread! I did one like it a few weeks ago! Yes I do think a guitarist can impart his mojo onto a guitar! It makes them magical. Sounds stupid but I'm a hopeless romantic!

Re: do guitars have mojo?

i think guitars have mojo for sure. but i dont think you can give them mojo. i feel its one of those one mans trash is another mans treasure sort of thing. the guitar either works for you or it doesnt. it could be a squier or a custom shop, still has to feel right.

Re: do guitars have mojo?

there does seem to be some "feeling" with certian guitars. like something is drawing you to them. so i would have to say yes. but then are some that dont. but it may for someone else.

Re: do guitars have mojo?

no ,i dont think i can give a guitar mojo as we are calling it,i dont know ,i mean im sure there are lots of guitars that have been bled on and certainly sweated on,i just feel drawn more to this instrument and when im pushing the boundries of my playing and come up with something cool, its always on this guitar, this guitar has my blood sweat and tears.i ll just hang on to it a while.............a long while..if a guitar has mojo it had it long befor i picked it up

if i ask what im going to ask, dont think im retarded or something, lol can a guitarist bond with a guitar,or a certain guitar, and i would answer yes to that question.

Re: do guitars have mojo?

My answer is, some guitars, yeah, for sure.
(A paraphrase of that is that all guitars have Mojo but it is only some of them whose Mojo a particular player can feel and it's some players that can feel the Mojo of a particular guitar :9:)

As for a guitarist bonding with a certain guitar, OF COURSE it can happen.
And there's nothing magical about it either really. Just the way a guitarist feels about a certain guitar, how it inspires him and/or what memories it holds.

I for instance have bonded with my first guitar, an MiM Strat. No matter what anyone was to offer I would still turn it down, this one's to last...

Re: do guitars have mojo?

Yes, some of my guitars have a strange, natural mojo. I would have to say that US Hamers have a pretty consistant mojo to their guitars.

Hamer's old super strats had so much mojo packed into them that Hamer ran out and had to stop making them.

I do generally love every US Jackson I have gotten my hands on also.

Re: do guitars have mojo?

My main axe didn't have any mojo it seemed, until I consistently used Dean Markley Blue Steel strings on it. The rest of it I impart, or try too.

Re: do guitars have mojo?

I don't think so. My Ibanez AS-120 is really resonant, and the neck is a joy to play, but I don't think there's any so-called power coming from the guitar to make me like it so much...I think it comes from the fact that those thing that matter the most are going my way on this guitar already, so I'm never fighting it and that lets me think about playing.

Re: do guitars have mojo?

My Washburn USA Grover Jackson Chicago Customs have sure taught me that they do. These guitars all have a unique personality and "vibe" to them. Picking one of these up for me is a lot like picking up a 53 Strat or a 58 Paul ( and YES I HAVE played nice origional examples of both ).
Each one of my MG's for example is a true handmade work of art and has a distinct personallity. The orange 95 MG 102 for example is an absolute speed demon shreader and a metal MONSTER, the Red 94 MG 122 is the polar opposite and is just fat, smooth and mellow sweetness, the sunburst 120 is fat and sassy with additude but also oh so sweet ect. I have never seen anything like these things. How can they be so similar but each one SO different at the same time??
Bottom line yep some guitars just have a "life" and "vibe" of there own that is just uncanny!! And when you find one of those instruments it's just !!

Naw what happened was a bunch of those guys just got hired away by Grover Jackson over to Washburn from 92-97 to build the Chicago Custom Washburn MG's!!

I am sure it was due to parent company issues with Hamer, but I like our speculations much better.

I feel that certain guitarists bond with certain guitars, and there's a right guitar for everyone, but that's not mojo -- it's called "chemistry."

Mojo is some kind of magical essence that would work for anyone, and I just don't buy into that. Chemistry, on the other hand, is real. You can argue whether or not that chemistry is a magical or mundane connection, but chemistry is what you're talking about.

No more than a favorite shirt. Or a hammer.
If it makes you feel good when you play it, thats cool- but if Ive ever bled on a guitar, its going to get the best cleaning of its life...ewwwww..

Lol, for sure. Guitars don't have mojo in the mistical sense. I think that the word that came up, "chemistry", is the best way to describe it. I find it to be a must.

If you and your guitar don't bond, get a new guitar.

Re: do guitars have mojo?

I couldn't agree more. I just made a net loss of over $600 because I bought a strat that I just didn't connect with, and that I somehow knew I would never feel right about, and traded it in.

I feel a bit stupid about throwing the money away, but I guess at least I learnt a lesson, and I got a bit of an insight into the chemistry thing, and what exactly I look for in a guitar.

Yup, you can feel stupid about the $600 in the short term, but in five years that $600 won't matter -- but having a guitar you connect with will last you well over five years. It's worth the risk.

I totally agree. That's why, for my last 2 guitar buys, I went to play the guitars, and if I went "WOW!!!", I went away from the store, asked them if they could hold it for a week (I know the guys from the store..), and then came back to play it 2-3 times in that week.

Chemistry is the most important part of your guitar rig, lol.
