Do I bother? PRS + SD

I’ve got a PRS McCarty with the 57/08 pickups. I find them somewhat weak sounding and a little sterile. I’ve also got a Gibson LP studio that I put SD Whole Lottla Humbcukers in. That guitar sounds amazing! It’s just not that comfortable. You can probably see where this is going....

If I put WLH’s in the PRS will it sound close the LP? While I know there are many factors, it’s still mahogany with a maple cap.

To get back to the title, is it worth changing out the pickups or am I chasing something that doesn’t exist (the playability of a PRS but the tone of a LP with WLH’s)?

PRS pickups aren’t very good. I’ve replaced a lot of them for customers. Duncan’s always made the guitar sound better.

I have five PRS guitars. Two Custom 22’s and three SE Singlecuts.

All five now have Duncan pickups and a standard 3 way selector switch.

One has stock Seth Lovers and one has stock Antiquitys. Alnico 2.

Of my other three, one has Antiquitys modified with Roughcast Alnico 4...one has Antiquitys modified with Roughcast Alnico 3 in the neck and Alnico 2 in the bridge...one has 59’s also modified with A3 and A2.

So I would say “Yes”!

Go ahead and make the change.

I've owned two PRS and ended up with Duncans in both. PRS makes great guitars and meh pickups in my opinion. Go for it.

That being said, only a LP sounds like a LP. Let the PRS be its own thing.

I have the WLH set in my McCarty and I love it! They split really well too...
