Do I need a white bridge pup to look good here (pics included)?

I have an Ibanez Prestige AZ HSS. It's great but I need a new bridge. Strongly considering a Satchur8 which only comes in black, cream or zebra in my country (cannot get white, ebay doesn't ship here).

I'm thinking about going black like:

The Suhr Classic line does this, though not with a pearloid pickguard.

What do you think? I think the cream may be kind of a strange contrast...all I had to compare was this:

What do you think? I hated the idea of the black at first but after putting the pup on there...maybe it's not so bad?

I would definitely go white. Then again I like white pickups and when a friend of mine got that Suhr my first thought was to change that pickup [emoji4]

I don’t think black looks bad, I just think white looks better.

Awesome guitar btw.

I strongly prefer white, but the black looks very “customized”.

That’s a great color, BTW. My Strat in a similar color is mint pickguard and aged white plastics, more of a vintage look. If you are going to keep the pearl, the crisp white goes much better than cream.

Can you get a nickel cover? That's a nice look to go with the Ice Blue.

I think it would be good. Just a few problems:

1) I can’t buy a covered one here in Japan, so I’d have to install one (need to wax pot it, right? I’m not up for that)

2) I’d need to cut my pickguard to make it fit

I normally wouldn’t hesitate to cut a strat’s pickguard but I don’t see any replacement pickguards available for AZs

you can install it black and if you really can’t stand it go the cheap sticker route.

I'd go with a white one. But a 59/Custom Hybrid. :)

At least half of the Hybrids sold must be due to your relentless endorsing of it lol

Definitely a great choice here.

My fave bridge pickup currently. I actually have a white one incoming.

I don't much like the look of one black pickup on that guitar. Aesthetically I'd prefer white if it were mine.

So he's said that he can't get the white pickup he wants in Japan.

I think the black looks ok. I've seen those bobbin toppers, but not the stickers. That might be a good alternative if you just don't like the black. You can look at other pickup brands that might be available in white.

Also, you don't HAVE to wax pot the nickel cover if you go that route. Just put a piece of masking tape over the slug coil side and then slide the cover on. Make sure it's on as tight as possible and get the pole pieces all the way through the holes (if the pickup has adjustable poles). Hold in place firmly (clamp if possible) and solder the two sides to the baseplate. You shouldn't have any problems since the pickup itself is wax potted.

White would look best, but it is out of the running due to unavailability.

I think black would look better than cream or zebra.

That said, a cream DiMarzio is as classic a look as there is in an aftermarket pickup...even if it doesn't match the white. It'd be very "vintage-modified" looking. I certainly don't think it would look crappy.

Thanks guys! I think I'm going to consider different pickups that come in white now since I guess you're right that white is the best way to go here. I'll also think about that nickel cover too - it might actually be cooler than white.

Just to provide you with some version of a preview of that look, here is my Black Paisley when I first modded it:

I didn't like the look in the end, and went to SSS, but there's what it looked like when I did have it that way.

Thanks guys! In the end I ordered a white Suhr Aldrich.

Re: Do I need a white bridge pup to look good here (pics included)?

Funny. The pickup in the guitar I posted above is a Suhr as well (SSV+).

Have fun. Should be nice.

Wait, I want a cut of that action! I’m always recommending the Hybrid!

Fair enough!

You get 20%. How does that sound?

We should do a forum search [emoji3]

I'm pretty sure Seymour's rider diverts all profit to SDC., LLC.

I like the modded look of the black, and would keep it like it is.
