Do Orange amps generally have a very particular voicing?

This is a clip of my slightly modded Dark Terror. I just clipped one resistor or cap, don't remember, for less fizz.

But as you can hear from the clip, I'm probably not the target demographic for Orange amps. It was a fun amp, though. A bit too low-mid heavy instead of having a deep bottom-end, but it was a 15W EL84 amp, after all. Really fun to record, though.

I always think the old seventies Oranges sound fantastic in clips...

That old OR120 is the clear winner here for me :bigthumb:

What a sweet sounding amp!

Next up the OR50...

But yeah, they all sound great to my ears..

I love my two SS Oranges (CR120 & Super Crush 100) as well.

I definitely liked those two the most as well, but couldn't pick one over the other.. The OR120 sounds so huge, fuzzy, and smooth. The OR50 sounds slightly less massive, but rawer and more in your face. Running the two of them together, or layering them for recording would be freaking amazing.

I love all of Clutch's albums, but yeah those tones are bad ass. The opening to "American Sleep" lets you know exactly what kind of ride you are in for. I love playing that song. Never played it through my Matamp funnily enough. I may have to change that fact this week for ****s n giggles.

That intro was my first ever exposure to Clutch when Dad gave me that CD for my 19th birthday. It almost harkens back to their very early sound, but chuggier.

I like all their albums but have been playing the first two nonstop lately as I recover from this surgery.

My intro was "A Shogun Named Marcus" on Headbangers Ball. My buddy used to play that album all the time, but I was in my thrash/punk if it ain't fast I ain't got time for it phase. It took me about a decade to get into them. The albums that really got me hooked are Robot Hive/Exodus, and Blast Tyrant. After that I went through and revisited their early releases with new ears.

Perhaps I need to get better speakers (my monitor systems are all in storage right now.). I didn't hear any night-day significant differences, only slight differences, in that video.

A good set of headphones should relay the differences clearly.

Keep in mind the OR120 and OR50 possess a similar circuit topology. Also considering they are all going at some level for the tones that put Orange amps on map there is gonna be some overlap. But the differences between the vintage design single channel OR120 and OR50, and the TV and TH are definitely significant. Are they like the differences between a Marshall JMP and a Orange OR120, no, but they are there.

FWIW for the record, I have an AD50, so I know that sound in the room as a comparison point. I've heard others play the Rockerverb series in person, but I've never been hands on with them. The TH series I have no in-person experience with, and the vid is a mic'd up / production situation, so there's that.

If you thought it was boring in Jordan.,,
then come out here for a day!

They were featured on a cake show because Neil’s sister’s husband is a baker and they made an Orange amp cake to thank Clutch’s 9:30 crew!
