Re: Do pedals need their own forum?
My motive is selfish; I get great advice on pedals and amps here. I think there is a cool synergy of having amp guys and pedal guys in one place. Both groups have dudes who know a lot about electronics, troubleshooting and signal path and whose takes are invaluable to non-tech apes like myself.
I also think there is a lot of overlap between the two and sometimes it's hard to split them out -
for example, where do you put questions on a/b/y boxes, fx loops, cables, adapters, switching solutions, amp/cab modelers (whether software or hardware like 11 rack), preamps/EQs, inline amp FX, etc.? But if you say, "once it leaves the guitar's output jack, it belongs here" that makes it pretty easy to decide where to post.
For what it's worth, I value the advice I get here as much or more than I get anywhere else, and it seems to be free of a lot of the hype/flame wars/trolls/vendor FUD compared to other forums. I guess I weigh in as "if it ain't broke don't fix it", but I am a relative newcomer so I defer to my elders.
