I swear, I probably go through 20 picks during a gig. I'm starting to wonder if it's just me or do most guitarist drop picks during a show? I have to keep 2 of those Dunlop mic stand pick holders loaded to the gills.

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

I drop picks occasionally but not that often. I use a Dunlop 1mm nylon with the finger grips. I turn the pick on its side instead of using the point. I only leave a small portion of the pick exposed. A lot of the time the meat of my thumb is hitting the strings along with the pick.

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

Well, since I dont usually play with picks, I dont usually drop 'em :D I do break strings like a mofo though.

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

I carve a big, ugly X on both sides of the pick with a screwdriver. This keeps me from dropping picks too often.

Picked up this trick from an old GW column by Dimebag Darrell.

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

i only drop about 3 or 4, but i usually break atleast 3-4 in addition to that

i really should start using heavys, but nothing beats a fender medium in terms of how they feel

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

i dont want to jinx myself but...

never in a rehersal/gig situation

only time i drop it is in the "$)(%^&)"(%£)("%&)("£&Y%)("£ sound hole of my acoustic when im practising.

I used to do that all the time, back when i still had an acoustic.

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

what picks are you using? Before I started using Dunlap Tortex picks I would always drop picks. Now, I never drop'em. I have switched to the Dunlaps with the gator on each pick and they are great to...

If I use a Fender or plastic pick they try to wiggle out of my hand.

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

I drop one or two on occasion, but not on every occasion.

Dunlop Ultex 1mm and .73mm, depending on the sound I'm after.

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

Anyone notice how if you drop a pick, it disappears? You look everywhere then when you come back to the spot you first looked at, it's there! Bl**dy things move I swear it......

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

The last time I dropped a pick was ages ago, and it was 4:50 into the recording of a 5:05 guitar track. My reaction was my favorite four letter explicative.

I don't drop many picks... I have a pretty good grip on them and I use the Gator Grips, so they tend to stick around while I'm playing.

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

I said never, because the most I've dropped my picks is like once every 3 or 4 band practice... I drop it once, usually in the middle of a song where by the end I need a bandaid... especially for solos...

anyone else ever notice that pinch harmonics, when done using just your fingers, have a much softer, yet still harsh and ear pleasing tone that with a pick?

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

I use Tortex picks (.73 or .88). HArdly ever drop them, but I also use my fingers quite a bit so if I do drop a pick I am not helpless. I tend to hold the pick (when picking with my fingers) in between the first anssecond joint of my middle finger. When I want to use it I just flip it back out. It works pretty good for me, but occasinally i do lose my grip on it an drop it!

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

yeah ever since I switched to tortex ages ago it has been a non-issue.

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

Don't have very much trouble myself, the occasional slip but nothing more than twice in a given situation. I also use the Tortex picks. .88mm.

Re: Do you drop alot of picks?

I have the same acoustic problem. With electrics, I never have a problem. But an acoustic? Its like theres a vaccuum inside my guitar...they just get sucked in there. I have no idea why. I rarely drop it (as in, it falls to the ground), it just flies into the soundhole. Its like the guitar gods are just trying to spite me.
