Do you guys wanna see my speedy project?

I've made a few pics of a build I'm working on a few days ago. It's a solid quilt maple body (A grade, not AAA, unfortunately), with a 9 ply exotic neck (That MUST off-set the body's quilt quality? ;) ), 25.5'' scale, 24 frets, 10''-16'' radius macassar ebony fretboard, gold Gotoh 1996T Floyd Rose, two gold humbuckers, wenge headstock cap and wenge backplates.

So...

question.

Do you wanna see the build process? It will be a kinda fast topic since the guitar has to be done within a week.

OH, pickups will be a JB/Fullshred Alnico II hybrid in bridge (gold cover) and 59/Jazz hybrid in neck (gold cover, too). Easy wiring, may I add.

So far, I've put in 12 hours.

Let's start with a standard neck blank, standard body blank and a fretboard.

Later I decided to use a different neck, though, as I came to realize this neck blank was made for a 24.75'' 22 fret neck: I was missing 1/2 inch. damn.

OK, I skipped a few photos. sorry. but here's the neck. right height off the body, right angle in the body, everything seems fine!

Backside. here you can see the new neck: ovangkol core, zebrano pinstripes, bubinga wings and the cores fillers are of figured moabi (like mahogany, but harder and doesn't need

A couple of hours of sanding and shaping later, we get this.

This is the stage it is in now: LOTS of clearcoats. Now: we wait.

Re: Do you guys wanna see my speedy project?

Have you tried a FS/JB A2 before? Sounds interesting.

Re: Do you guys wanna see my speedy project?

Jup. Really like it. Slightly more saggy in the bottom than the a5. A bit more creamy too. The jb/FS platform is extremely versatile and imho needs to be made. A2, A5, A8, double thick ceramic, triple ceramic, standard ceramic... It all works so well. Stupid they don't make it. They've got all the programs in place to make the coils. No new tooling and programming required!

Re: Do you guys wanna see my speedy project?

I made some progress the last few days. I glued a new head cap with a continuous truss rod cover of sapwood wenge (that's the dark core wood we all know and (should!) love, with a bit of the creamy white edge). I did the fretwork and I buffed the neck. Not the finish (of the neck). the neck itself.

check it out! The finish is curing along nicely. It has been kinda nice the last few days so I'm guessing that the finish will be hard on monday, when I wanna buff the guitar. I'll glue in the neck on sunday, do the nut and other small jobs so I can install the pickups, tuners, bridge and electronics this monday. Tuesday's the delivery. I'd hate to give her to this bloke but hey... that's the game we play.

thanks man :) I know you have been critical about my work before, glad you are starting to appreciate my stuff and that the hard work is paying off.

I will start buffing the body later today. Let's see how far I can go within the completion process of this baby.

OH, and FYI: this is solid quilt maple, true, but not NEARLY as heavy as you'd expect. With all the hardware, I'm guessing, 4 kilo's?

Re: Do you guys wanna see my speedy project?

What work? You mean scamming peoples guitars out from under them?!?!?! ahahahahahahahha....:lmao: To be honest - I'd consider it an honor to be "Orpheo'd" Hate the game, not the playa!

You have built other things? Send me links....can't recall.

Anyway - that thing is high caliber bad@$$ssery!!!!! Can't wait to see it done and hear about the tonal pickup mojo!!!!

Re: Do you guys wanna see my speedy project?

Aceman: I'll make a thread later today with the highlights of the last few months/years, just for you ;)

In the mean time:

- yes, that tuner is gold. just an odd play of the shadow.
- I'm only noticing this now, but the bridge pickup is flipped, lol.
- Yes, that truss rod cover is recessed and continuous.
- yes, that's wenge with sapwood
- no, this guitar isn't heavy: under 4 KG (that's like, 9 lbs or less)
- no, not entirely done. Need to wire her up first, do some final tweaks to the floyd and set her up properly. But so far, so good. Basically; done :)

Re: Do you guys wanna see my speedy project?

Every single element of the guitar seems to scream at me, trying to grab my attention. There is no balance between the background and those to be highlighted. And the use of wood is obviously overdone.

The OP could use a course in visual design, I think.

Since the dawn of time us lead players have liked it like that. The only problem with this aesthetic style is that you end up with a guitar looking so nice that it will get stolen.

I don't think the OP would benefit from a course in visual design anywhere near as much as YOU might from courses on tact or manners.

Re: Do you guys wanna see my speedy project?

Okay, so I am guilty for criticizing (and dilsliking) something. I apologize.

I guess it's not what you say, it's how you say it? I wonder what you're referring to when you say the background and what's being highlighted? I think my couch and wall are kinda neutral? ;) The guitar itself. yeah, well... I will change the knobs to gold, so that blends in much better with the rest. As for the color, gloss and pickup/hardware: that's all a deliberate choice. I wanted a guitar to POP, a lead guitarist's visual expression. As for the timber: I'm just using 6 kinds of wood here. Many Ibanez guitars of the more high end scale have 5: a rosewood board, maple/walnut neck, alder or basswood or mahogany body, poplar top. Here, the neck has the majority. I hate for strips of wood to go to waste if they are long enough and tall enough for a neck blank. So I glue it all up and make a neck! Easy as that :)

and hey... I never said my guitars are made to pleasure everyone. For some, a tele or a LP Jr. is almost too extravagant. I get that. I just like wood and working with cut offs, leftovers etc.
