I've been playing a lot with my strat lately loaded with 3 SSL-1's and I have been discovering the "tastes like chicken" sound of the middle pick-up. It is neither boomy nor shrill which I find good for blues and accompaniment for ballads clean or otherwise. It seems that the majority of people I talked to use the middle pick-up for position 2 and 4 only and some even disconnect them ala Blackmore and Malmsteen.

I use the middle pickup a lot by itself. I only have it connected to the volume pot and to the switch.

Number 1 please

Re: Do you, if ever, use the middle pick-up?

I'm one of those where the middle is only to enhance neck and bridge. :)

Re: Do you, if ever, use the middle pick-up?

I have my strat wired so that the middle position combines the bridge and neck together. So there is no middle pickup by itself.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm................let me think about that...............NO

unless im playing bluesy stuff (which only happens around once a month)

Re: Do you, if ever, use the middle pick-up?

I only use a middle pickup when I want to play a strat. I don't think they belong on an H-H guitar; they just get in the way. For me, it's either H-H or H-S-S.

Re: Do you, if ever, use the middle pick-up?

Yes but only combined with the neck or bridge pickup. Never by itself. Lew

Re: Do you, if ever, use the middle pick-up?

2 and 4 ... but very rarely. my guitar is HSS and i nearly always the bridge humbucker.

Re: Do you, if ever, use the middle pick-up?

I use positions 2, 3 and 4 on my H/S/H. Also, I'll use 2 + 4 with the HB full on or split depending on the tone I want.

Re: Do you, if ever, use the middle pick-up?

Bizarrely, when I played with my uncle's strat (3x single coil) I always used the middle one on its own - I thought it gave a great rhythm sound playing open chords - a solid foundation to build a song from, if you will. Nothing flashy or rocky about it - just very effective, IMO.

I love the middle pickup by itself. It's what I use for rhythm all the time.

Re: Do you, if ever, use the middle pick-up?

Hendrix, Trower and Rory Gallgher used the middle pup extensivly. I feel like im in good company.

Re: Do you, if ever, use the middle pick-up?

I have a set of Kinman Traditionals in one of my Strats, and the middle pickup solo is quite excellent. The #2 and #4 positions are pretty great as well.

Re: Do you, if ever, use the middle pick-up?

I dont need no damn middle pickup!!!!!!!!

unless it is in 2 or 4

Re: Do you, if ever, use the middle pick-up?

I only have guitars with dual buckers, but I never use the middle position, unless I want to combine a full bucker with a split one, which happens once in a blue moon.
