Do you know the Peavey VTM series ?

Re: Do you know the Peavey VTM series ?

So I clipped the bright cap off the volume, and changed the value of the presence cap. It is a .1, was looking for a .68 and had none, so I plopped another .1 on top of it and the amp is fantastic. Better cleans, warmer, a little more mid grind and the gain boost switches sound much more natural. A complete keeper of an amp. Really not inclined to tweak much further, it sounds so nice. I got a set of Shuguang 5881 tubes in there, a great bargain as well. Very full sound, with a little less gain to them, sparkles on the top end.

Not too many great sounding 200.00 tube amps left these days. I have no 800 envy...lol

I will try and get some clips recorded today.

Re: Do you know the Peavey VTM series ?

Kev how would you compare the VTM to other peavey models like the Triumph, the Ultra, the Rockmaster and the Butcher?

BTW I did a search on the forum and found a Traynor Bassmate clip of yours with the other guitarist soloing with a VTM, sounded great, which speakers did he use?

Looking forward for your clips, if you can plz post some of your old AOR clips as well
Thanks man

Sadly, I think those AOR clips are off the HD. I cannot find them.

Never played a Triumph, beyond the store. The Butcher was brighter ( a volume cap clip would remedy it) and not as gainey. Definately more of a late 70s vibe. Had better cleans as well. The Rock Master head, which I have almost owned on a couple of occasions, seemed a bit smoother and more compressed.A bit different vibe, nice, but I do prefer the VTM snarl. I had an original Ultra and much like my 5150, it is like the VTM with all the boosts engaged. They scream well, but there is a subtle openness missing from those heads. I have the same beef with the XXX and the JSX. A lot of tonal color gets in the way IMO. The VTM, esp with those dip switches really makes the amp much more natural sounding, or you can engage those switches to give it that nasally, screamy kinda thing. The new heads have too much going on for my tastes.... I have heard some cool Windsor clips though. I am yet to give one a try.....

Re: Do you know the Peavey VTM series ?

I just tossed up a clip in the tips and clips section..... A quick one...

Re: Do you know the Peavey VTM series ?

Great clip kev very plexi'ish and open, but I can still hear those 6l6 there taking away the squishy character. Well i'm sold i'm gonna get one, after a long time figuring out which jcm clone to get (AOR\Red Bear\Mig) i'll just go for the VTM. BTW could you post those windsor clips? Been wanting to hear one for some time now.

Re: Do you know the Peavey VTM series ?

Ohh and I read somewhere (maybe here??) to get the one with "Peavey" on the grill. Does it really matter? Any difference between them?

Re: Do you know the Peavey VTM series ?

Hi,
I don't post much but this thread brought me out.:smokin: I've had a VTM120 and a Peavey cab with Scorpions for some time and like it but don't know much about it. My head has been modded with another channel added with a foot switch. I call it a lead switch for a better term. It is another board piggybacked onto the second gain pot with another gain knob in the back to control the amount extra when you step on the switch. i googled but didn't find anything about it and the music store knew nothing about it. It is a great amp and if anyone knows what this is in mine appreciate knowing.
Thanks
Jon

Thanks man,

I think the higher filtering tightens it up too. When I get a bit more ambitious, I will swap in some lower values, for a bit more squish.

Let me find those Windsor clips, I should be abale to track em down again.

I didn't know there was a version w/o it, I figured people just took em off...lol
