do you name your gear

Re: do you name your gear

No, except for a couple of them. Shi**y #1 and Shi**y #2. But Shi**y #2 needs to be unnamed because it really isn't a bad guitar ...

Re: do you name your gear

Yeah man. They all get a name either due to a trait or just a play on what it is. Simple stuff like RV for a red V or Victoria for a sweet woman I met around the time I got my Dean P90 Z. YNMV. Your Naming May Vary. :headbang:

Nice lil threesome of guitars you have.

Edited to add:
RV

Victoria

Re: do you name your gear

I don't have a name for my hammer, my drill, my dremel or my router.

Why should I name my guitars??

Re: do you name your gear

I never have. I've personally always thought it was rather silly. However, some of my friends have named some of my guitars before.

Re: do you name your gear

yeah, I do/intend to.. But oddly, havent got id done yet... Only ones I actually have named (that I still own) are my white strat: Lacey and my black explorer: mistress.. (not really a name, but she's dressed in black and sexy...)

Re: do you name your gear

I name many of mine, but not all. With 55 guitars, it's become a simple short-hand to communicate with Miss Leslie, my paramour and part-time roadie. Saying I want "The Chevy" is simpler than, "I want The Bel-Air Green G&L Legacy". I also have an S-500, an upgraded model to the Legacy...and since it's also Bel-Air green, it's known as the "Impala". Some other examples:

"Judy" is a S/B Legacy that an old GF gave to me as a present.

"Mom" is an S-500 that was bought with money from my mother's estate.

"JoJo" is a hot-to-trot Fullerton Red Legacy.

"Les Paul" is my first 1960 Classic Premium Plus LP in Honey Burst; "Lolita" is a Classic Premium Plus in HCSB.

"Jake" is my HCSB LP Supreme (for my late Dad--he would have loved the grain and color of the wood on this guitar); while the Root Beer Supreme is "Diana Ross".

"Goldilocks" is a gold metallic Legacy, "Ice" is a Legacy in Lake Placid Blue metallic.

Not all of them are named, but with so many guitars, it helps to have a code and not a long descriptor when talking with my roadie.

Bill

P.S.

(And no, I have never named a car...other than calling one a ####-ing POS, every time it needed another quart of oil!!!!!) :)

Re: do you name your gear

The Ibanez RG with all the butterfly stickers is The Butterfly.

That's about as far as I go beyond "the Les Paul", or "the Dinky", or "the blue Soloist".

Re: do you name your gear

I actually do name my guitars and basses. Sometimes I have a name for them right away and sometimes I have to bond with them a bit to name them.

Re: do you name your gear

i said i only give my guitars #'s to represent importance to me.. this is true but i forgot that i have coined a name for my squire strat.. i call her the "ultra Squier" and i refer to my red jackson as "my soul".. mainly numbers are easier for me though

Re: do you name your gear

My "guitar mentor" (the guy who started me wanting to play when I was a kid) was named Howard, so that seems to be what I wanna call all my guitars.

Except for this one, it got called "Leftovers" because it was made up of all the (duh) leftover Squier parts from guitars I modded.

I realized I had enough to build a whole guitar, and it turned out so good it just needed its own name.

Re: do you name your gear

I name mine, no real reason I guess, but to me each guitar has its own personality, might as well have it's own name to match.

Re: do you name your gear

Update... we finally got a consensus in the George household on names for guitars (actually my daughters lost interest, but my wife helped me).

"Lita" (2010 Ibanez RG3EXFM1)
... because she's sexy and bada$$

"Holly" (2002 Ovation Celebrity Deluxe CS247)
...because she's green, natural looking, and "Christmas-y"
01.jpg

"Diana" (2011 Ovation Celebrity GC057M)
...after Princess Di, who looked so elegant in her black dress right after leaving Chuckster
02.jpg

"Jewel" (2005 Ovation CC-045-HB Celebrity Standard 12-String)
...because she reminds my wife of sunshine, and that makes her think of Jewel

"Betty" (mid-1980s Applause AA-31)
...my first guitar, named because she's black (Black Betty) and because she's old (I just went to a birthday party this weekend for a 100-year-old woman whose name is Betty)
Applause AA-31.jpg

"Mandy" (unknown year Galveston Mandolin)
...if you can't figure out why the Mandolin is named Mandy, well... :dunno:

That's it... all nine guitars in BriGuy's herd are now named. Now I gotta start thinking of good possible names for a Tele (that'll be my next guitar purchase... at least that's the plan for now!)

Edit: by the way, I don't bother naming my amps... they're just not as personal to me as the guitars!
