Would this be considered fancy-pants??

I believe that would be considered "Redneck Hotrod"

I like to see flames, quilts, etc if they're well done and the wood seems to "pop" out at you. Interesting colors are a plus as well. I Never was one to got for a "plain" sunburst. I'm more into candy colors and metallic finishes.

Re: do you prefer fancy pants tops and finishes or a nice solid color?

I prefer fancy pants PERIOD.

Have you went to the Steve Vai show. Now that guy has some fancy pants!

Re: do you prefer fancy pants tops and finishes or a nice solid color?

I like solid colors like blonde or olympic white on strats, just looks real classy. The fanciest i'd go is a sunburst and that's what i have.

Fancy pants tops remind me of doctors who own studios and keep their PRS and Gibsons hung up on the wall untouched, unplayed and poorly set up....they also cost way too much- i dont care for the looks of a guitar unless it's painted a very strange color or has a picture of El Che on it.

black SG standard with a black pickguard...mmm...

solid colors for me

Re: do you prefer fancy pants tops and finishes or a nice solid color?

I like both, but I think the carved tops can get out of hand sometimes. My guitars are both black.

Re: do you prefer fancy pants tops and finishes or a nice solid color?

I like the look of a nice ‘flamey’ LP or a quilt PRS. However, I always associate those guitars with ‘furniture’ – mostly for display purposes…(toys for lawyers and posers ;))

A solid color guitar is meant to be played. And if it takes a beating it’s no big deal.

Re: do you prefer fancy pants tops and finishes or a nice solid color?

I like looking at fancy tops and paintjobs, but for my guitars i prefere a simple solid colour.

Re: do you prefer fancy pants tops and finishes or a nice solid color?

I have a mix of solids colors and figured top guitars.

It eventually boils down to " if it plays, feels, and sounds good, it is good".

For my next Carvin I was thinking of going all black CT4.
But, have them do the faux binding. Leaving the maple top edges visable.
Giving it that all black with cream binding look.
Though the binding would actually the maple edge.

Mr. Fancy Pants here. I'd love to have an Explorer painted like the above guitar....except have a rebel flag on it. That would rule!!

Re: do you prefer fancy pants tops and finishes or a nice solid color?

I think that beautiful tops are great to look at, but for my own purposes, my favorites are simple:

Black, vintage white, red, and Sunburst. (Its a classic.) :)

By coincidence, the four guitars in my sig, are those four colors. :laugh2:

Re: do you prefer fancy pants tops and finishes or a nice solid color?

As long as it's a nice shade of blue I don't mind..

Re: do you prefer fancy pants tops and finishes or a nice solid color?

I say it depends on the guitar but most of the time I just like solid colors but a pin stripe here or there doesn't hurt.

Re: do you prefer fancy pants tops and finishes or a nice solid color?

i voted plain, but i also like naturla colors as well. Im not really into the sunbursts that much, i prefer one solid color, or on acoustics eiter solid or natural, no fancy mulity colored tops for me. I find it takes away some of its mojo.
