Do you think an amp cabinetry business would do well?

From personal experience, you will NOT be independently wealth running a music retail business. Lots of competition, slim margins and cheap musicians for clients (not all of course, but alot).

Lets face it, most musicians aren't rolling in cash.

It can be a decent "side business", but don't bet on putting food on your table with it.

Music is a great hobby, but making a business out of any aspect of it sounds next to impossible (unless you're a lawyer or CEO screwing musicians). I love guitars, but I'd end up hating them if I opened up a music store.

Cabinets are cool and all, but the market is flooded already with cabinet makers. Put simply, when it comes to fancy guitar cabinets, I don't think there's much of a market in it. Most people are completely happy with what is already readily available. As far as boutique cabinets go, you're looking at a niche market that is going to be sparse work, it wouldn't be consistent enough to make a living.

I have a cousin (He lives in Westerly Rhode Island but has his shop in Niatic Connecticut) who started building bass and guitar speaker enclosures and now make his living making custom cabinet and woodworking products.
