Dod250?

Didn't YJM use one of these to push his Marshalls? I've seen one in one of the shops, I might go try it. They have a Classic 30 there so I will try it into that. What do they sound like? Are they good for pushing the amps front end? Whats the difference between it and the YJM pedal(i probably wont find a YJM pedal around here)?

Re: Dod250?

the two pedals are basically the same thing as far as i know.

its a mild boost pedal and malmsteen did use one, try it and see if ya like it.

Re: Dod250?

I have a DOD 250. I had one of the originals years ago, and recently picked up the reissue, which to my ears sounds just as good.

As jeremy says, it's a relatively mild overdrive. It's simple to use, with just two knobs - Gain and Level. Played into a clean amp it'll give you a 70s kind of classic bluesy rock overdrive. It's also great in front of a driven tube amp, either as a cleanish boost (Level high / Gain low), or to push it into insanity (Gain and Level high).

Nice pedal - give it a try.

Re: Dod250?

I had two early 250 pedals, and both of them had this odd monotone buzz permanently stuck in their tone, no matter what power chord was strummed. It did not matter whether the amp or guitar were changed. This "fizzle" was still there! I could here it with someone else using it with their own gear.

I bought a Boss SD-1, and found this odd, unwavering fizzle tone to be missing immediately.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for the input. Hopefully I'll get down to the music store some time this week to try it out. They will also have a boss to try I'm sure. They also usually have classic 30s in stock so i will be set!

Re: Dod250?

I don't really think of the 250 as an overdrive as much as a boost with a little hair. Don't like 'em. Think of it as the missing link between an MXR Micro-amp, and a Tube Screamer. If you want boost either a) Get a microamp for 20db of pure loud or b) get a screameror whatever and set it for clean boost. Almost any real overdrive sounds better to me - TS9, Turbo version, Blues Driver, so on and so forth...

Remember - Malmsteen is a particular guy. He is using late 60's Marshalls, which are also particular amps, and they are set up a particular way, with his particular guitar/pups etc. He uses those to goose the preamps and add high end. The few I've heard/played sounded awful to me through everything....

I don't think a classic 30 needs any help. Particularly not from that pedal....
