Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

I got a steel GFS block and it appears to be working okay, but the arm is bent after literally 5 minutes. I'm going to switch it with a fender arm, but I was wondering if I'm the only one with this issue or if all GFS arms have crap metal.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

They have to cheap out somewhere. It wouldn't surprise me.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

Situation update: Arm broke off in the block. How do I remove it?

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

Do you have any metal working experience? If not, don't bother. Just get another block. It'll be cheaper.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

if you can reach it with the point of a pocket knife
the sharp point in a counter clockwise direction
slowly

the point will catch and spin it
its not bound in or bottomed out
its just hangin in there

if its too deep for the knife
a needle or pin will work

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

Ehdwuld, could you please clairify? I take it to mean spin the knife in the center, or around the edge?

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

Try to catch the edge, and BE CAREFUL. Tips can break off of pocket knives easily, you'll slip, and f*#k up your finger. The other way is to drill it out a bit and use an extractor. But, if you had those, you'd probably have done that already.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

I know I guy with an extractor, but he has at it at work and I wanted to know if there was a way to do it without taking a drill near my guitar.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

I ordered one for my Jag.. I wanted it to be in a slightly different position. I couldn't bend the darn thing to save my like, unlike the MIJ strat I had.... Sound like you got a defective one.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

It was only 4 bucks, so my bank account didn't take too much of a hit, it's only a bit of a hassle.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

hold it like a pencil

act like you're drawing circles
really small circles

Yes, take the bridge out and the block off of the bridge plate.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

Thank you
He probably will
His question was how to remove it
So he doesn't have to send block and all back

They are only $5
Postage back will be as much

I saw your instructions. They make sense. Once I had bought an extraction kit for a 2mm screw, never had any luck with it. But with the trem block (>=5mm wide) one way or another he will figure it out.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

Arm had been extracted, thanks for your help.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with bent GFS arms?

It came out easy. The drill totally ignored where I center punched it, but other than that it went smoothly. Didn't even have to remove the block from the guitar.
