Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

Is it more hassle than its worth? I have a silverface super reverb and a mesa mkII I think would sound awesome together but part of me thinks it just isn't worth it. Experiences? Comments?

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

I did the 410 Deville and an AC30 for a while, and that was great. Lately I've been trying my Pittbull 45 and a Mesa Stiletto Ace in stereo and it sounds ridiculously good... especially delays/verbs. Once you try it you'll never want to go back to one amp again.

That said... when i was playing shows actively, most venues didn't have a stage big enough to run a setup like that, most sound guys were too lazy to deal with it and most venues only gave you 15 minutes to setup your gear.

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

I have quite a few of them actually. I love it.

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

I looooove stereo amp rigs. Before I got my Blackstar head, I had a Peavey and a Vox practice amp, and I had those in stereo. Right now I'm saving up for a second half stack, among other things, to run in stereo with the Blackstar. So I definitely dig the two amp sound, and that's how I imagine any future amp setups for myself.

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

I used to run the Carvin XV-212/Randall RG-120 setup I have stereo through and old Alesis Quadraverb. It sounded ok, but I found that it just sucked tone. I like running the one slaved through the other now and find I have and expansive yet much more focused sound.

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

I need an a/b box because I have tried them together and buzzzzzz. Plus, I have both of them at my tech right now getting tuned up. Just posted for thought.

Dude, you can't run stereo without running them together at the same time. An A/B box won't help you. But it does sound like you need some kind of ground isolation between them.

Your SR and Mkll should indeed sound awesome together.

No hassle at all. Definitely worth it! And the sound is huge!! The sound was so dramatically different/better than just running a single amp, that I would never go back to a single again. In fact, I now run three amps together.

But you need one of these...

It's pricey, but worth it. Ground lift, reverse, drag control. Lets you choose either amp alone or both together. Much better than a cheapo ABY.

Just do it and don't even give it a second thought.

That or the lehle are the ones I'm looking at. I think I'm getting rid of my pedalboard so spending $160 on that isn't really a huge deal.

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

It's a huge hassle transporting it, but I'll be damned if it doesn't sound fantastic. Though you may be better off with a 1x12 and a 4x10 combo than me and my gigantic pair of 2x12's.

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

I run a marshall and blackstar together using a morely a/b box. It is a great sound. Both amps are 1x12 combos.

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

I run a Mesa Road King 2x12" and Splawn Quickrod 2x12" in stereo. The Mesa provides big bass and crisp highs, the Splawn gives chewy mids. The big board runs through this rig and sounds awesome.

However... This is all at home. I've got an opportunity to join a band, and I'll be darned if I'm not going to just take the nice portable Princeton Reverb and maybe a little pedaltrain nano. ;)

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

I've ran stereo rigs for years and never had a ground problem. Split them from a chorus or delay pedal.

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

I love my stereo rig. It pretty much stays at home, I have a Deluxe Reverb to lug around. My stereo consists of a board ending up with an old Boss DC-2 Dimension C and then a Hughes & Kettner Tube Rotosphere (both are stereo pedals). Sometimes I'll also include a Boss PN-2 Pan/Tremolo - also stereo. From the Rotosphere it goes into a matched pair of vintage Silverface Champs (modded a little with Kendrick 10 watt speakers and AT7 preamp tubes). Little amps nonetheless, this rig sounds huge, and the stereo separation with these pedals is just spectacular. Even though I normally don't take it out, with those little Champs and a single PT-1 board it really isn't that much trouble to cart around. It even all fits into the trunk of my Fiat 500 (but the guitar ends up in the back seat).

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

I have a Gibson Orange Matamp OR120 reissue sitting on an Orange PPC412 cab sitting on a Green Matamp Lead 412 sitting next to a '73 Sunn model T sitting on a 90's Fender Sunn model T reissue 412 sitting on top of an Emperor 212.

Sound guys yell at me if I use the OR120 on "barely loud enough" using a distortion pedal for dirt into the 2x12. Morons.

Some people appreciate a fine wine, an aged scotch, or a gourmet meal. Most people eat McDonald's.

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

for home use it can be cool to run your rig in stereo. Chorus, Delays and Reverbs sound fantastic in stereo. But if you're a gigging musician, setup a stereo rig can be a hassle. In my case, most of the time, you're allowed to bring only your head amp to the gig and use whatever cab they got in there. And sometimes you got like 15 minutes to setup your equipment sharing the stage with other 3 bands... there isn't enough space to put a stereo rig.

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

In small bars it's quite a hassle, but imho the sound of two different sounding Amps can be very special. I use a relatively clean Fender Super Reverb combined with a relatively dirty Budda Superdrive. With a Les Paul, that's instant Bonamassa tone. I still have to work on my Bonamassa technique though... ;-)

Re: Does anyone run a stereo amp rig?

I have been working on my pedal preamp into powered speakers to get.a.stereo sound
I was using my Belair and Laney thru a Morley at home and loved it
Now trying to get that more portable with the preamps
