Does everyone here wear earplugs when cranking their amps?

Re: Does everyone here wear earplugs when cranking their amps?

i wear custom fiited earplugs made by Westone. They cost me about $175. They work very well. Everything just sounds quiter. I can even hear guitar work much more clearly when I have these earplugs in. I have the 25dB filters, I plan to pick up the 15dB filters for situations that don't need the full 25. There seems to be no frequency loss with these earplugs. The best thing about these is that I have no ear-ringing after concerts( or practice) I can go to all sorts of loud shows and once I'm away from the loud sound just pop them out.

I usually use generic Hearos at band practice (loud hardcore with a loud drummer with loud cymbals). The funny thing is, I got used to hearing my amp through the earplugs, and now my amp always sounds a little too trebly and harsh when I take them out. It's almost like the hearos take out a lot of the high-end hiss of a loud distorted amp too. Weird, huh?

that is exactly what I have experienced...that is why I want those 45dBA ones...the main thing is to have some sort of protection, since evolution did not breed humans to combat high sound levels. I think my singing has gotten better with the earplugs. when you sing, you can train yourself to go by the vibrations that occur within your skull, according to Mark Baxter (singing coach for steven tyler and others)

I have been thinking about it, it seems bizzare to go buy $200 earplugs to hear music you enjoy, but that is how the whole bar hears the music, because it is loud.

I hope all the musicians on this forum here use some form of ear protection.

interesting stuff :)
