Does John Spina still do mods?

Re: Does John Spina still do mods?

I'm guessing you are the all-time forum leader in posts, LesStrat. We need to get some standings posted somewhere!

Re: Does John Spina still do mods?

I'm no longer doing any pedal mods and doing alot of different things un-related to music,guitars,etc....(For now anyway)...LOL

I'm still playing with my band and all and enjoy the guitar, but the pedal mods burned me out. When I started doing the pedal mods,it was all for fun,but then it got to be a bit too crazy at times so the fun became a part time job for me..Joelap is a great guy and I'm glad he's doing pedals now for you all....

One thing hasn't changed though, and that is,if you have a pedal that I've modded that doesn't work(providing you didn't drop it)I'll repair it for you free(providing the repair is related to my work)Honestly I've only had to repair about 3 pedals out of all the many I've modded! Seriously!

I've also taken a needed break from the forums and I come on once in awhile to say hi to all of you great people...All is well otherwise!

Lew is one of my favorites(Always has been)....I Know Lew used to get into some heated topics and he'd leave.I steered clear of alot of that stuff...Glad he's doing well...Tell Lew I said hi and glad he's doing well...He deserves that.

I could make a huge list of many many people I Like on the forum..

Re: Does John Spina still do mods?

I ve wondered about Lew also.

John, all the best to you! Your highly respected here! If you do get a desire to pick up the soldering iron again, let me know. I LOVE the DS1 you did for me and Ive been bragging it up to my buddy in LA ( FANTASTIC plyer ) (www.bill-lima.com tell him Bryan sent you) and I wanted to get one done for him as a gift.

Again tho, enjoy y'self and be safe on the bike.. We been having great riding weather here in jax.

Re: Does John Spina still do mods?

Bikes are always great!!
It is the only I dig more than music and gear;)
So I so understand hehe!

I've been playing for over 20 years or more and the cycle is just a new found craze phaze for me...Basically I've just changed my hobby and made guitar second, though I still play and the band is still going and that keeps me playing(Just not as much)

I Know it's a phase and something I'll get out of my system one of these days..It's a bit of middle aged crisis and that baby boomers are buying bikes.

Re: Does John Spina still do mods?

I've got a Joelap modded Boss BD-2. He did an Indy Guitarist mod to it and doesn't claim ownership, but it sounds better than the indy sound clip. I plan on getting more work done by him. JB_From_Hell and a couple others have got pedals by Joelap as well. Talk to him.

Joe is a great guy also!

Nice post, but I honestly didn't think my name would ever come up since not being on the forums....There's alot of new blood on the forums and that's good.

Re: Does John Spina still do mods?

I've got a TS-9DX that you did a mod on, John. Excellent pedal...it's got a permanent home with me.

I've considered doing some of my own mods...maybe now's the time to get started.

Thanks for the updates and have fun with the bikes.

Re: Does John Spina still do mods?

FWIW:

I dont know how John did it with the mods.

Maybe its my schedule, but I've had so much on my plate right now I'm even leary about doing mods, really. If I discover or finish a new mod, I'll just release it. That way you all can have it without having to send it to me. If someone wants a mod done and they arent soldering-iron inclined, I'll do it then. But holy crap, not even a month into it and I havent had time to play at all because of it. Maybe its not just the mods but the ground-up custom pedal clones. And I mean no disrespect to those who I did/am doing them for: its my fault for taking on so much! :smack:

I've just been realizing lately I havent been playing much, but worse is what happened today at my jam session with The_Chris and my drummer. Chris has really really nice gear... but better than that, its all in one piece. I'm finding that cause I'm experimenting so much, I never have all my stuff in one piece. I had 5 pedals with me today. 2 were working: and one is a stock NS-2. The others are mid-mod or mid-experiment. And, to be honest, its all fine to have things in the process of being built at your house, but when its time to play, it definately sucks not to have all your stuff in one place or working all at once. Not to mention, you can only experiment on one pedal for so long until the traces start to lift, then forget it, its not worth anything anymore. I guess I'm starting to think differently about gear: its nice to have stuff that's got your own personal "touch" on it, but not to the point where you're spending all your time on your gear and none on your playing. I'm starting to remember what it is that I enjoy the most: playing, without worrying about the condition of my gear.

So basically this is a long response for 1) major props and a "better you than me" to john cause I dont know how he kept up for so long with the mods and 2) dont expect me to be able to take John's place! I'll do a few mods here and there, but I'd rather guide people through the process of doing mods than doing them for others, at least right now.

Actually, there have been several forum :flush: and a site change. My count should be higher. But a couple of others would be higher still (e.g., Zerb or Gearjoneser).

I just post more useless drivel than they do.

"My mind is a veritable cesspool of information."

Hi Joe....I didn't have a problem actually doing the mods, but when it came time to wrap up,and get the packages to the post office,it became a real pita for me.I always strove to get the pedals sent out within 2 days of getting them.Sometimes I'd get quite a few all at once though! :laugh2:

I'd like to do some pedals here and there though and not all at once, but then there are those dry periods,so you just never know what's gonna happen?

I'm just taking a break for now from doing the mods, plus my eyes aren't as good up close lately....I'm approaching age 50! :fingersx: :chairfall :laugh2: :smokin:
