does pickup with covers sound any different than one without?

Does the nickel cover version of the same pickup sound any different than the open coil version? If so, how do they sound different. Thanks.

There was a thread about this just last week.

I put a nickel cover on a 59 last night and there is a subtle difference. First, it cuts down on the 60 cycle hum you get when near computer monitors etc. Second, it slightly cuts the brightness. Not very much, but a little bit.
For this particular pickup, in this guitar, I prefer it with the cover on it.

Howdy,

Dunno; my only guitar w/ HBers ( A Gibson ES-335 and SD '59s) doesn't have covers. Unknowingly, I ordered the '59s without covers. Money's too tight to get new P/Us, just because my 335 looks odd with uncovered 'buckers!
The '59s sound just fine to this Keith Richards disciple. Sorry for rambling.

Only a huge difference if you solder the cover to the baseplate IMO and yea use search. Theres been a bajillion of this threads.

Short answer with a cover its a little darker, without its brighter and more raw.

To me, it's like setting your treble or presence back one notch, which to most people isn't any sort of issue.
