Does taking the rear sticker off a speaker to expose the vent improve it's sound?

Re: Does taking the rear sticker off a speaker to expose the vent improve it's sound?

What vent? Please to 'splain?

Re: Does taking the rear sticker off a speaker to expose the vent improve it's sound?

I'm gona put this under the same category as "Do Pickguards Effect Tone?" and say sure, yeah, probably, in some miniscule, barely-measurable way, it might...but you shouldn't ****in stress about it and play your guitar!

Re: Does taking the rear sticker off a speaker to expose the vent improve it's sound?

if you're really dissatisfied with your tone enough to consider taking the sticker off your speakers, maybe you have more important parts of your rig to think about replacing first....

that's how I see it.

The difference would probably be even less noticeable than changing picks. Probably more along the lines of changing a strap.

Changing picks -can- change your tone noticably (going from Jazz III's to larger nylon Dunlops changed my sound drastically, anyway). I think this would change your sound far less than that, though.

lol...no, a couple of days ago I came across some guy on a forum who said he could'nt for the life of him understand why speaker manufacturers put stickers over the rear vent (I did'nt even know they had a rear vent) and why they (stickers) were'nt the first thing anyone removed when they bought new speakers..

He made it sound so mandatory (and there were other folks agreeing with him) that I thought I was missing something special...and it's just been nagging me & playing on my mind since.

meh. people will believe anything if it's written on a forum.

eh, I have'nt lost sleep over it, but yeah, I'm a bit curious...the guy did'nt say what the point was and I can't guess.

It is a natural curiosity. We have all pondered it at one time or another.
Cannot think of another situation where the manufacturer of a device/part deems it necessary to have a vent on said product, and then covers up the vent.
WTH.....

I once read that if you change the logo on your amp to that from an old Marshall Super Lead you'll instantly have the VH 1 tone.

Seriously, a sticker? Really? C'mon man, you're smarter than that.

On a related subject... which color tolex sounds best? Black absorbs all light so i imagine it wouldnt project as much as an orange or yellow tweed cab.

Also, which material should my knobs be made of? I was thinking some handcarved ebony knobs would really accentuate the high-end.

And what should i eat before playing? I seem to have better tone after eating korean BBQ tacos.

THNX INTRNATS!!!

Re: Does taking the rear sticker off a speaker to expose the vent improve it's sound?

lol..very funny, it just seems weird that you have a vent at the back of a speaker and then cover it up with a plastic/airtight sticker...kind of defeats the purpose right? Nothing wrong with pondering about that...

Re: Does taking the rear sticker off a speaker to expose the vent improve it's sound?

It's not a vent.

&

You don't want dust in there.

What Is A Dust Cap?
A dust cap is the semicircular dome found in a speaker's cone. From its name, the dustcap prevents the speaker's coil form collecting and storing dust from the outside.

The sticker on the back has the same function...

Leave it where it is...

Also, if you buy second hand, check for a bulge on the sticker (shouldn't be there).
If there is a bulge, it is very likely that the speaker(magnet) moved beyond what it is suposed to do (a.k.a. blown speaker)

Not all speakers have vents back there either, you might pull the sticker off and find out that the "hole" is just an anchor point for casting. Don't waste your time.

I replace all my speaker stickers with these.

It gives my rig that "happy tone."

Re: Does taking the rear sticker off a speaker to expose the vent improve it's sound?

This reminds me of a day that changed my playing life forever.

I was fussing over my tone with another player (who is much better than me) who was able to just plug in, tweak a couple knobs and play up a storm. After my second or third tweak he said "can you play or not?"

My life became a lot less complicated that day.
