Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

You know, once your start putting finger prints all over the guitar? I remember one time I had been eating some fried chicken so my hands were extra greasy and it took some of the high end off after I touched the upper horn a few times. I've also heard several people comment on guitars coming right off the factory line sounding better before being heavily touched... any other opinions?

I find that I can get a lot of grit out of my Les Paul if I don't brush my teeth before playing. However, a Pearly Gates and brushing with some Colgate Whitening toothpaste give it an almost strat like tone. I call it the Pearly Whites.

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

I find that I like my tone much better after eating a bucket of KFC and having the grease all over my fingers. I feel it gives me a much more gritty sound.

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

your joking right? this is the stupidest question i have ever heard.

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

I always coat my hands in Crisco before playing.. it gives the tone an unbelievable crispy but not greasy character that Shedd´s Spread and You Can´t Believe It´s Not Butter can never match :chairfall:laugh2:

That said, I also use Hemp butter when playing stoner rock and motor oil when playing nitro injected rock and roll :D

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

I find I prefer my tone from 6-10 A.M on a Saturday morning in December with overcast weather while wearing one sandel on my right foot, white boxers, a torn tank top, and with a beanie on. Also, my PS3 has to have been running for at 3 hours on standby, and my door has to be opened at a 90 degree angle to really filter out those high frequencies. AND my cat cannot be present in the room, otherwise he absorbs the bass frequencies and I get an ironically "woofy" tone.

lol, come on dude, you probably won't be able to hear a difference in the tone.

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

I can't tell any difference in tone, but the feel is affected by things like moisture, grime, temperature, etc. It feels best to me when my fingers are clean, dry, and cold.

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

Jesus you guys are thick. This thread was started in jest. It's a play on all the "does this effect my tone" bull**** going around. Hence my KFC post, Tim's Crisco statement, and numerous others. Good God.

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

If god were good then this thread would have died before it got to 5 posts, bro :firedevil

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

Nah, he's good because I've been rolling with some of the posts here.

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

the only instances it'll affect tone are in wes montgomery's and neal schon's case, as wes, and later neal, would eat salami sandwiches to make their hands greasy so they could play smoother. i kid you not! check out the last interview schon had with guitar player:lmao:

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

Now a bunch of guys is repeating basically the same joke here, thinking it's funny to say the same thing 10 times.

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

I wipe my strings down with Johnson Baby Wipes, I think this was a tech tip from 17 second Zerberus!
(Man, you're a legend in my book, I threw up over the kid one time!)

Re: Does the oil in your fingers/hands alter tone?

Best post so far.

I rub homeless dudes on my guitars.

Why?

It makes them smell like piss.

Are your guitars that dirty that THEIR smell rubs off on homeless people?? Jeez man, that´s hardcore :D
