Does this make you RANDY? I'm just getting started!

Re: Does this make you RANDY? I'm just getting started!

To me it would be worth 5 hours of digging to not hack and chisel out a hole like that.

That does seem like a much more logical location for the jack.

Yeah, but no one sees the hole unless they look inside the electronics cavity, I did a decent enough job on the outside that the jack plate covers it completely. :D

(I've seen some fairly bad holes drilled inside cavities on production guitars that were obviously enlarged by hand. They still had the stock electronics so they were done at the factory.)

A year ago haha. Its on the to do list.

I *just* got around to setting up the paint booth, and everyone knows how much I like to paint. :D

Ooooh, my case of metallic orange paint is on the way now.

PVC pipe and clear shower curtain liners. (Heavier than painter's plastic, but much easier for lighting up the "room" than tarps.)

Had two King Vs come in yesterday. Gonna be getting pretty busy around here soon. :D

give it up man..you could buy one American standard body for the price of 5 of those turds and the quality and tone would be a hundred times better, and you could sell it, not liek with the junk indo-chinese bodies..i'm only saying this because i love and respect you.

Re: Does this make you RANDY? I'm just getting started!

First - Please point out where I could get a USA Jackson body in the shape I want. Last I checked, the USA King Vs are neck through.

Second - According to the custom shop, the only bridge options are tune-o-matic and Floyd Rose. I want a Strat style hardtail, which means taking a tune-o-matic body, filling the post holes, and modifying the neck pocket to level out the neck angle. That would kill most of the resale value there.

Third - I've sold every single body that I've refinished for more than I had into them.

Thanks for playing.

Edit - I take that back, I didn't sell *every single* body. I still have the slime green and purple Dean Vendetta bodies. The other 10 Vendettas, 6 Telecasters, 4 Schecters, 50+ Strat bodies, etc.. all sold for a profit.

Plus, if you have a good eye, it doesn't cost a lot of money nor require US manufacture to get a good product.

That's just it, unless the body wood is tonally dead, you can always make it sound better. I've had two tonally dead guitar bodies over the years. A Squier Telecaster, and a USA BC Rich.

Most of my guitars are a mix of Mexican parts, some MIJ, some MIA, but only one guitar is soup-to-nuts MIA, my Peavey Wolfgang. They all sound great.

Re: Does this make you RANDY? I'm just getting started!

I agree Guitar Doc. Cheap in price doesn't mean cheap in quality. That would be like my basket case Harley. It is now nicer, faster, and just cooler because I built it, instead of financing it, along with a pretty new set of leathers. Oh yeah, and that bike gets ridden to its destinations, not trailered. Same for your guitar project. Build it, and enjoy it, and make it sound better than the guitars that many of the gear snobs use.

Re: Does this make you RANDY? I'm just getting started!

Trying to figure out which color logo to use. (I have a few of each color.) The metallic orange is a King V, the green is the Rhoads. Notice that I'm not adding a "Made in USA" sticker to each, as I'm not *that* guy. :D I think either one would work. (I found a few pics on Google with both color logos.) I definitely need to keep a black one for a white headstock, and a black one if I do a natural headstock. Maybe I can convince the guy I got these from to make some in silver, those would work on just about any color. (Except for the one I plan on painting silver of course. :D )

I think the black'll show up better against the green.

Either of them getting Blk hardware?
I'd use the Blk logo for that one...
