Does an insturment cable being coiled really give any positive or negative reactions to tone?

I don't have any experience with this but if the coiled cable has a higher resistance than a normal cable it will minimally alter the signal from the guitar to the amp and this undoubtedly will have (even if its teeny) an effect on the tone

Actually it does. Coiled cables roll off a bit of the top end. It supposedly has to do with added capacitance (sp).

most people overlook the importance of cables, myself included. the thought of that new amp or pedal changing your tone is much more exciting than the thought of a new cable

yea it did for me, got really quiet then i had to kick it and move it around and itd beok.. then itd happen again, but that was with a loose jack

I was always skeptical of what difference a cable could make, until I replaced the generic cable I was using to run from my guitar to my pedalboard with a Bayou cable (I use GeorgeL's on the board, and a Pedalsnake from the board to the amp so they're pretty good already). I'm eating crow now, there was actually a noticeable difference.

robert nailed the effect - slightly rolled highs ... only you can decide if you think it would be positive or negative
