Does wood make a difference?

Re: Does wood make a difference?

For poly or acrylic finishes: hard-rock maple is your best choice.

For Nitro finished guitars: mahogany covered in a nice soft leather that won't damage the finish.

Re: Does wood make a difference?

I'd say that it does make minor differences to tone but the main differences is the "hardness". I think that this tonewood argument is just on the internet, imo it doesent really matter

My guitars would sound so much different if I used those stands, so you are correct - the winner!

Re: Does wood make a difference?

I know this thread is a little old, but I got a big kick out of it.

FWIW, the ONLY stands I use are made of bone, reclaimed from undiscovered mass graves.

Re: Does wood make a difference?

Both with the same pickups and electronics

...

Not a lick of tonal difference between the two. In short the answer is a resounding no.

But... but... one is red and the other is a black/red/yellow burst! That alone could offset the tonal differences of the wood!

Nice guitars!!

But I wouldn't call any test involving an EMG as being particularly illuminating. Pretty strong blanket over any wood contribution to the tone there.
Plus the usual guff of 'proving 2 guitars sound the same does not mean its true for every one'.

Body basswood - neck maple

Body alder - neck maple ebony

But they're metal stands ?

Re: Does wood make a difference?

Forget wood. How about granite? One solid piece, just frets and tuning machines made of metal, oh and the electronics. Even have the bridge carved out of the stone. Now that would be heavy.

Re: Does wood make a difference?

I just use carpet. Lay em down yourself and you'll never risk breaking a neck from falling off your tone-tuned stand.
