For this guitar, I used a gloss top, and a satin black back and satin finished neck. It's Defthane satin, and it takes awhile to cure, but once it does, it's pretty hard. I really like the amount of "satin" element in it, and the texture once it dries. It's pretty silky. You can also vary the texture by how you shoot it. If you shoot your last coat "wet" it dries silky and smooth. If you "mist" it, then you get a little rougher texture, but not sandpapery.
I like doing it as a regular black undercoat and satin clear on top. I think that's richer looking than a satin black. Since the light shines through the satin clear to the black, it gives it some depth. Flat black is a little cheap looking to me.
That's the look I'm after. not fully flat but not shiney. what brand of spray you use? How many cans of each? any info on the brands and how you did it.
