Yeah, this is something I've been thinking about for quite some time. Doing something like having a dual-humbucker guitar, but fitting it with four single-coil-sized humbuckers. The main problem I see, would be that you'ld have the north pole of one magnetic field laying next to the south pole of the other. That could create an oddball tone, even cancelling some of the signal from the two adjacent coils.
Its one of those things that would just have to be tried to see. (Or hear.)
