DR Pure Blues Strings

Re: DR Pure Blues Strings

Yea, I've been using the DR Pure Blues .011's for about 4 years now. They are great. Thick and musical with no harshness at all. I can't imagine going back to another brand. Would possibly consider trying the DR Tite-Fits just because I never have (tried the Pure Blues and never looked back).

I like hitting a chord and it sounds (and feels)..... solid and powerful. Muscular and steely but warm. Great sustain, high quality, not cheap.

Also (no one has mentioned this), DR's are pre-stretched (there is even a warning in the pack not to "over-stretch" them). A godsend if you break a string at a gig and have to change it real fast.

Other than the slightly "stiffer feel" of the Pure Blues, what are the differences between the PB's and the Tite-Fits? Is it just that the Pure Blues are warmer?

Re: DR Pure Blues Strings

The unwound strings are indentical. The pure-blues are a little warmer than the Tite-fits on the wound strings. Both sound great.

I use Pure Blues or Tite Fits on all of my gutiars except for my single-coil strat. On that, I use D'Adarios for their twang.

Yes, that's it. Perhaps its Not so much that one string is better than another but one may be more appropriate to the sound you are going after. Just another factor to consider.

I used to always buy the cheapest strings I could find...Boomers..D'Addarios, slinkys, markleys, etc..I've been paying more for the Brite Wires since I started using them, but they have saved me money in the long run!
quick question:
does markley sig last longer than boomers?
which feels heavier?

Re: DR Pure Blues Strings

i loooove the pure blues, and then every store i went to stoped carrying them...pisses me off....i now use the tite fit and dont like em as much, hopefully some store near me has the pure blues soon...

I assume you just mean the plain ol' Dean Markley strings..like these?

They come in a much fancier package than they used to :)

I don't think they are any better or worse than Boomers. If I had to give some kind of difference, I'd say the boomers plain (unwound) strings are a bit easier to break for me than the Markleys..but it may just be coincidence.

I find the Boomers very "slinky" (sorry EB :D)...they seem to have less tension...if that's what you meant by "heavy"

Side Note: So far so good on the Gibson Les Paul Reissue strings....I've been been beating 'em up the past few days, and they seem to be holding up pretty well :knocksonwood: With D'Addarios I'd have broke at least 2 strings by now.

Re: DR Pure Blues Strings

thanks! you answered everything I need to know.
the tensions of same gauge different brand vary so much. I always want to have the heaviest 9-42 for my carvin DC because the 25" scale. D'Addarios, slinkys are too soft. I like a more positive feedback feel when I bend.

I might have to try those. I tend to go cheap with D'Addario 3 packs, just so I can string up more guitars for the $.

Me too, ive been using D'addario 9s. :) I used to go with DRs but, 3 D'addario sets > 1 DR to me.

Yo bro, you're on LI right? They have DR PB's at Guitar Center Carl Place and at Ash. Also you can order them direct from Musicians Friend here:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search?q=dr+pure+blues

The .011's & .010's are cheaper than the .009's & .012's (go figure). You can't beat $4.99 a set. :D

I do pretty much the same thing; I use Pure Blues on my SG and Hamer Studio and D'Addarios on my strats.
