Dream humbucker design

Re: Dream humbucker design

the guy just wanted to have some fun with this thread is some of yall dorks just totally trashed it

Re: Dream humbucker design

This is a dream pickup right?? So it doesn't really have to be real right??

Because my dream pickup would know exactly what I'd want and change her output and feel with everything I did. She'd get poppy and clicky when I plugged into the Blues Deluxe and turned up the surf reverb.

She'd get nasty enough to shake your lungs loose throught the Mesas but still have the top end to squeel your ears out when I hit that G harmonic on the sixth string.

And finally, she'd know to fuzz out and get loose when I feel like "not giving a F#^k" about it.

\m/,

So, my dream pickup would actually be a magical alien that can cancel hum, overdrive and amp, act like a vinatage strat, jangle like a lipstick pickup, cream out like a p-90 and just as an added bonus, I want the pickup to be scratch-n-sniff and smell like Brooke Shields.

:werd:

Magnet: Gary Oldman's soul!!!
Wire gauge:BARBED!!!
Wire coating:Sweat from the thighs of Minka Kelly
Polepieces:Definitely Rough cast in the Deserts of Arizona
Potting wax: naaaaaaaaaaaah.
Base plate: Sheet rock from the bowels of my beloved New Jersey
Cover: slutty
Active/passive: No batteries but the pickup would naturally be spiritually active
Dc: Corrupt
B/m/t: Varialble/ alien
Output Yes please

I had a rough 2 minutes this morning. Some d@uche almost drove his truck straight into me and my lungs are blown out from wishing him dead. This thread made me smile :)

Yeah, man this is the way - your pickup sounds like my woman ;)

Could we say... a Rare Earth magnet, barbed wire would be mighty :P (scatter wound with frayed wire..?), wire coated by Minka Kelly's tights..? Roughcast poles - hint of rust, perhaps..? - with said sheet rock baseplate. The bobbins or covered with an 'interesting' 'porno'graphic and with our without the logo in what script..?

Re: Dream humbucker design

I don't know enough about winds and whatnot to predict what a certain wind would sound like under certain conditions.

However, I do often think about what my perfect pickup would sound like. For the bridge, something medium output. Think slightly hotter than PAF. Enough to drive a vintage amp, but not overload a higher gain amp. A8. Beefy and tight in the lows, punchy and aggressive mids, and present highs without being crazy ear piercing. Slightly mismatched coils, like a hybrid pickup. For the neck, lower output, mismatched coils, A4 mag. Warm, yet clear. With ability to go from chimey and bell-like to smooth and buttery with a roll of the tone knob. It'd be nice if they split well as well.

Edit: I've thought about a specifically voiced active preamp as well, i.e. the Gus G. set.

I think describing the sound of everyone's dream pickup would actually be: a) a lot more practical to talk about, and b) a lot more fun because it would be simple enough to answer, and everyone with preference KNOWS what sound would work - rather than guessing off of BS meaningless specs.

But no, thinking the pickup-savvy people of the SDUGF will play dumbly along and speak "pig latin". You may get away with it at Harmony Central, or Ultimate-Guitar, but not here.

Sounds like a Custom with an A8 instead of a ceramic - is that the Alternative 8, now?

I like the sound of your neck pickup. The tone that jumps out at me is the Blues Saraceno pickup - probably way off the mark - but, with an A4.

Re: Dream humbucker design

For Wolfgangs or Axis & Ax40's, a dream neck pickup would have a magnet with a hole, & ribbon thru the hole: when you pull the ribbon, the removable magnet comes out to convert the guitar to one pickup (Superstrat).

That gives a richer tone,- very much like that screaming tearjerker guitar solo in that famous hair metal ballad, "Sheetrock from the bowels of my beloved New Jersey." \m/, .\m/

No, the Alternative 8 is its own thing. The Custom 8 is the Custom wind with an Alnico 8.
