Drop D vs Drop C

Re: Drop D vs Drop C

i have used dropped d a few times, personally i prefer neither, but given the chcoie drop D wins. I play in standard or everything tuned down half a step. Drop C is just to metal for my taste.

Re: Drop D vs Drop C

**** this.. Drop Db is where it's at. Eb is my home, so Drop Db is just familiar territory. I can't stand anything higher or lower, unless it's just downtuning the 6th string, or if it's a bari/7 string tuned flat.

Re: Drop D vs Drop C

I just play in standard. i've been in some punk rock bands where we played in drop D. I used to set up a guitar in C standard too. I like that tuning a lot.

I'm surprised no one has said Eb yet..... but anyway,

I use 12's and I play in standard, sometimes drop D. On my 7 string, the low A string is a 80. I don't play crazy bends, so it works just fine for me.
half step down from standard A=440 is Eb or E flat, which I do sometimes. I mentioned it in an earlier post.

Those are some heavy strings for standard tuning. That's hitting SRV territory there, except he'd bend 'em like nothing. I'm quite happy with 10's and I only recently started using them more regularly since I got my acoustic. My fingers just got used to heavier strings. Plus, 10's make my Strat sound so much better.

Hehe I was actually really into Drop Db just recently when I was going through the whole White Zombie phase. It's my second favorite tuning. :beerchug:

Re: Drop D vs Drop C

I think most people have missed the point...

How low you go really is determined by your singer. If your singer can't pull it off with you playing in drop D, but can if you play in drop C you play in drop C. That's what I've always done in bands anyway.

Atm I have a guitar set for E/Eb and drop variants, one for D standard/C# standard and drop variants, and C standard/B standard and drop variants..

I always find that I can go one step flat on a set of strings without wanting to bump up the guage, but any lower and it feels to floppy for me
