DRRI and pedals?

I've asked before in other threads but never got an answer so I'll try again. How well do OD and distortion pedals sound thru a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue when using a humbucker equipt guitar? Any details would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: DRRI and pedals?

Mike, they should sound fine (depending on what pedals)...at higher volumes you might get some low end mush but there are ways to tame that to some extent. Not the same amp, but I had a SF DR and it took to pedals beautifully. There are pedal manufacturers that specifically design pedals to use with non-MV Fenders (the Barber Direct Drive is one).

Re: DRRI and pedals?

Here are a few pedals that work great with a DRRI.
Boss OD-3, Boss SD-1, Boss SD-2, Marshall Bluesbreaker II, Boss CE-5 Chorus, Boss CS-3

Re: DRRI and pedals?

Mike, I've never owned a DRRI, but I've tried a few & they're beautiful amps.

The key I find when using these type pedals is first, dial in a good clean tone & use the pedals on the clean channel. Then just let the pedal do the work.

If you use a distortion pedal on a "dirty" channel, it just muddies up on ya'.

Of course, some like more than others, so it's subjective....just play around with all the dials & see what YOU like best!!!

There's no real dirty channel on the amp. There's Normal and Vibrato, Vibrato being the one usually plugged into when you're in a diming mood...

Also....another vote for the Boss Overdrive. For some reason mine hates Tubescreamers.

Re: DRRI and pedals?

I rarely use my humbucker guitars through my Deluxe Reverbs...they just overdrive those little amps to easily and it's hard to get a clear enough sound for rythym. But I play my Teles and Strats through them all the time. The pedals I use (ocasionally...not regularly!) are the Boss DS-1, John Spina modded Tubescreamers, and a Fulltone '69 Fuzzface clone. Those pedals all work beautifully with my DR's as long as I'm using single coil guitars.

HAHAHAHAHA :laugh2:

I meant that in general terms, not necessarily on the DRRI.....some guys throw a distortion pedal on a 2 ch. amp, set it for max distortion on the dirty channel & then can't figure out why their $200.00 pedal makes their $1000.00 amp sound like A$$!!!

BTW I love the avatar!!! Do you have those signs....and where'd ya' gettem????

Re: DRRI and pedals?

My DR's don't have a dirty channel per se. But the reverb channel on a DR is always ballsier than the normal channel because the reverb adds one more stage of gain to the amp.

For that reason, I put reverb on both channels of my blackface and silverface Fender amps.

Then I revoice the normal channel for more of a Marshall-esque tone by replacing the .1 and .047 tone control caps with the Marshall value: two .02 caps. I also replace the .047 coupling cap at the output of the normal channel with a .02 cap.

I also use a Celestion G12H-30 speaker in both of my DR's.

My DR's kick butt and when I'm done I can get the normal channel to start to overdrive without a pedal at about volume 3.

I've always found it hysterical when folks go amp shopping and they bring a ton of pedals with them. To me it's like bringing a strap with you to go guitar shopping. Man, if the amp doesn't sound good without the pedal then odds are it aint' gonna make it much better with it....

A buddy of mine online saw the street sign and took a picture of it for me. He wouldn't tell me where it was....like, even the state. He knew if I knew it would be gone by the next morning.

AMEN! I even like playing a guitar unplugged at first to see how it responds before plugging in.....

hahaha.....I'm actually surprised it still exists!

I took a picture of myself a few years back while travelling out west. Driving thru Arizona, I stopped at the sign that says "Welcome To Winslow"....so I took a pic of myself "Standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona".

If I can drum it up, I'll scan it & use it as my avatar!

Oh & Lew............you & Bruce are just amp bada$$es !!! :13:

Even the vintage output Hums like the 59 and seth lovers? I always thought drive was associated with the DC resistance. These 2 humbuckers are close to some vintage tele pickup and a bit hotter than the vintage strat singles.

What's the deal, or am I misunderstanding pickup specs?

Thanks,
D

In reality, an 8.2K tele bridge pickup and an 8.2K paf humbucker will appear to have very differant outputs. The DC resistance is helpful when you're comparing apples and apples. Not apples and oranges. :) All the DC resistance is is a measurement of the the mile of wire wrapped around the coil. A mile and a half of the same wire will have a higher DC resistance.

Re: DRRI and pedals?

DRRIs sound best with strats and teles. The blues Junior and the hot rod series sound good with humbuckers and pedals.
