Do any of you have experience with this plug -in? I have read a bit about it and think I'm going to pick it up. Is it easy to program using the interface? I would love to get some kind of controller but wouldn't be able to for a little while.
DFHS is the best way to create drumtracks without a real drummer, simple as that.
If your PC can handle it, by all means, get it!
It's easy to work with... Just load up a kit, load up the drum map, and program away. The only hard part is the actual mixing to get it sounding good.
You won't need a midi controller, just use the map on your DAW. Which DAW software are you using, though? Cubase and Nuendo make it really easy, they actually have drum maps. I believe DP does, as well, but I'm not 100% sure.
This is the best work that I've done with DFHS, and it's not at all the best that can be done with it:
I like BFD as well. It just takes a hot rod of a computer to run like it should. You can really control alot in terms of velocity, mic placement, mic bleed and so forth. Definately moreso than I've seen on any other program.
Well damn...I've just slid past foggy and am hurtling towards completely lost.
I should have told you my computer specs...Apple iMac with a G5 processor and 1.5 gigs of ram running OSX 10.4 (i think). I am using Logic express right now and because I'm just learning I probably will until I have a reason to change to something else. I don't even know enough to know what I need and don't need. :smack:
Anywho...I was a drummer LONG before I started playing guitar and I can hear all the parts in my head but programming is a pain in the *ss! If I had 5 grand I'd buy a v-drum kit and be done with it but....
Is one easier to use / program? I can't listen to sound clips at work but I'm sure both sound good. I listened to DFH clips this weekend and they sounded very good.
Ease of use and flexibility are my 2 biggest concerns I guess. If I hear a part in my head I want to be able to create it and not spend 2 weeks trying to figure out how.
I make a lot of records and have hired session players, programmed drums as well as used midi files from other players etc. As a drummer you will be frustrated by any drum software because to make realistic drum tracks is a very difficult task. That said if you just want to lay down some beats for a demo or to noodle with either software will work fine. Just know that the more ram you have the better. I think both programs come with some basic beats to get you started.
i was just talking with DSS3 about this yesterday and i was looking for ease of use and a good enough sound for some demos not some crazy complex program with 150% real sounding but a good sound that would fool the average person i guess. anyway i came across this new program by the pople who make DFH called EZ drummer which looks perfect for what i want...EASY with drums that sound good enough for a clean demo.
i think i'm going to go with that down the road. check out the clips and decide for yourself if the sound is good enough for you or not. i think it's perfect for demo stuff.
The G5 will run either fine, but I prefer DFHS for the stuff I do - which is 100% extreme metal. BFD might work fine for other stuff, but it just didn't cut it on what I've heard.
