DS-1 as a booster?

Is it "possible" to use the DS-1 as a booster and use it for bass? Is there a small mod that will give me more low end? Own any Wiring diagrams? I have a guitar friend how uses a SD-1 for boosting, is there a bass mod for that pedal? Which do you feel is better at boosting?

I used to have a DS1, i tried it as a boost and didn't really like it. I would imagine the SD1 would be much better as a boost. As for a mod that will increase low end and make the pedals a bit more usable, John Spina on the forums (stratdeluxer97) does mods for both of these pedals for a good price. Everyone that has had his mods say they are top notch. I would send him a PM, im sure he can help you out.

Re: DS-1 as a booster?

Well i brought my bass to the local store and tried one out, didn't feel any need for more bass, what i really wanted was more volume. This pedal, or this ex was lacking volume like a polar bear in a gigantic shoe. Maybe a little less treble/mids too would be nice, who knows....

The electrician at the local store is willing to mod it for me for a low cost.

Re: DS-1 as a booster?

My problem with most distortions on bass is that not that it doesn't add bass but it sucks the bottom end out of your sound. It's not as if you're just using the added gain of the pedal to push or boost your signal, you're cutting out your bottom end and boosting the rest.

Re: DS-1 as a booster?

they work good as boosts

i know like 3 people who use them as such, one has an orange, one has a crate blue voodoo, and the other has a jcm

zakk wylde used them before he got his sig pedal

Re: DS-1 as a booster?

If you want volume boost, use a boost pedal. Sure, an overdrive pedal can be used as a boost but it depends on what kind of boost you want. If you're looking to add more overdrive to the preamp, then sure a nice overdrive pedal would do nicely, which is what Zakk uses his for. It's not for a volume boost but for more gain by slamming the front end with a hotter signal than normal with clipping already added.

Then there is the volume boost which is just that, make it louder. For that, you need something that does just that. There are so many boosters on the market for this it's not funny. You can even build your own if you have the know-how and desire to.

When I Mod a DS1 it's for more gain and more lows and to sound more "tubelike".The modded DS1 isn't at all about being used as a clean boost.I use the Duncan Pickup Booster for that or an MXR Micro Amp would work for that...

Re: DS-1 as a booster?

I'll think i might use it just as a dist pedal, they have the mentioned boosters at the local store, i might just try those.
