DS-1 mods - Keeley vs. Analogman/Stratdeluxer

Hi all,

I have a DS-1 pedal that needs to be modded or sold. I like the sound samples of the Keeley DS-1 Ultra mod on the website. I also like the analogman mods, and after talking to stratdeluxer, it sounds like he does a similar if not identical mod as analogman. Has anyone compared these two/three mods with each other? Is one preferred over another?

Thanks for your opinions.

Joe

Haven't compared the mods, but I have a Stratdeluxer modded DS-1 and can speak very highly of it. Go to John for the mod... trust me.

From one Joe to another...

When modded, is that pedal sort of a "Marshall in a box" kind of thing?

Re: DS-1 mods - Keeley vs. Analogman/Stratdeluxer

I don't have the DS-1, but I have a Stratdeluxer modded SD-1, and it is fantastic. It's much more open, not as buzzy, and much quieter. It's more....organic. Keely is the guy that made these types of mods popular, and I know he does great work. John's work is just as good IMO, and people who have owned both have said that John is better.

The price is also right, and John will bust his ass to make sure you get what you want.

Joe...I Must correct you on your statement....My mods aren't similar to AnalogMan's mod as I don't have an analogman pedal to copy from...The mods you get are "my own" version of it...I'm not copying anyone elses mods..... :smack: I've been modding Tube Screamers about 4 years before Keeley ever got out of the service! Seriously....LOL Careful how you word stuff, some of us are sensitive! :13:

Exactly. It sounds like a more harmonically rich JCM 800! I had the Keeley DS-1 SEM/Ultra, and STRATDELUXER97's mod blows it away!

Hey John,

Sorry :smack: ! No offense intended. The reason I thought I could make the comparison is that there is a similarity between the way you guys do mods, based on your descriptions, and that this seems different from the described mod done by Keeley. I never should have said identical. I am very sorry for implying that. Your mods have received great reviews. Actually, I wish I could try ALL OF THEM!!!

I didn't mean to minimize your contributions to the modding field. :blackeye:

Cool...thanks. I have a Fender amp too and that's what I was hoping. Thanks!

John's mod is pretty cool. I like the changes he made to the midrange, he also got rid of that mosquito-esque Boss COSM tone that is really annoying.

Re: DS-1 mods - Keeley vs. Analogman/Stratdeluxer

I read a lot of great things of stratdeluxe mods. I wanted to send him my ds-1 but the mail is expensive and when return to my country I have to pay taxes like if it´s new or used 17% of the estimating and shipping price. I have to resolve it.
So for now I only can mod it by myself.

Hows? sound de indyguitarist ds-1 mod. I can buy the instructions for 10dls.

Absolutely no problem buddy....I have literally had to sit down and make changes within the circuit via the schematic...After that it's using a resistor and cap substitution box and trying different values and seeing if it makes a positive change...You have to know where to make these changes, but it still is alot of hours of trial and error initially...It's also my ears that I have to satisfy first...If the pedal doesn't sound good to my fussy ears,I can't expect anyone else to dig it either...It isn't rocket science but you do have to know where to voice the circuit.. I'm sure my buddy RID would voice more opinions on this also..
