dual inputs at amp and dual outputs at chorus pedal

super rad stuff

Skaforlifeologist
ok, i think i figured out a way to run 2 simultanious signals into my amp from the same guitar, but just wanted to make sure it'd work the way i want it to. now, i've got my guitar running straight into my phaser into my chorus, and i split my signal from one half of the chorus into my metal zone, and the other half into my ds-1 and mxr classic distortion, and both the 'zone and classic are into the 2 inputs on my amp. i've run the amp with both inputs and each signal is completely dry of the other. now, my problem is that my chorus pedal's manual says that the two outputs are out of phase with eachother. i'm assuming that it's so when the effect is running it pans in stereo. but i want to know, will my signal be out of phase when the chorus pedal is off? and if i turn the chorus on, will the effect just not work since the two signals cancel eachother out? otherwise if it works the way i want it to i can have a heavy thick sound from the metal zone and a cutting, cleaner tone from the ds-1:naughty:

edit: btw even if nobody replies to this i'm still running this setup tomorrow:D

The wet parts of the two chorus signals will largely cancel each other out, but I can't predict what you'll hear with all the different dirt boxes in there.

Re: dual inputs at amp and dual outputs at chorus pedal

thanks:D well, with this setup i'm not really looking for a chorus sound, just a bigger sound overall. i may also have to ditch the phase for an equalizer in one of the two loops. i'm going to be trying this later in the afternoon. the way i figure it, is i can have one set of distortion fill out a certain frequency spectrum, and have the other distortion fill out the rest of it, especially if i run the eq. or i can have a distorted sound layered with a clean sound. either way it's gonna be cool if it works:scratchch

ok i tried it for a minute(i'm gonna be busy today...) and it works the way i want it to as far as mixing clean and distorted textures, along with different distorted flavors. i got a really cool sound by mixing a totally scooped out metal zone with my very mid-eq'd mxr classic. mixing cleans with distorted tones wasn't what i expected though, it's very wierd. it's like either it's too distorted, or i just get a little hair around the edges. i need to experiment more with this tonight!

Re: dual inputs at amp and dual outputs at chorus pedal

i got to play around with this a lil' bit ago and here are my observations....
clean mixed with dirty sounds like crap. it's not that my distorted tones are bad, nor the clean tones, it's just that the distorted tones are to.... "distortion from a box" sounding, or natural enough to mix with a clean tone. mixing dirty tones is where the fun is though...
at first i was running my ds-1 and classic dist. on one half(both set for clean-ish boost), with the metal zone on the other input for a thicker, more distorted sound. that worked the way i wanted it to, but eq-wise not quite since i had the metal zone set for a big mid-boost and i had some harsh frequency clashing. so i switched some pedals around...
i had the classic distortion into an eq on one side and the ds-1 on the other. i set the classic for a crunchy, loud sound, turned the tone down a bit, and added some bass through the eq. just that side sounded really heavy, thick, and creamy, but without any top end clarity. so i set the ds-1 for about half-way on distortion, high level to match the other input, and tone at about 1:30 for a bit of top end. the end result was the biggest, most filled out heavy overdrive sound ever. i love the end result, very full and thick, with a ton of grind and clarity.
best of all, i can set it up as a 3 channel amp in a sense, as i can have the ds-1 side for a grinding rhythm, and can boost the sound with the classic distortion without losing any clarity since i'm not running more distortion, just more eq. either way i'm really digging this setup. btw my chorus doesn't work when run this way:dunce:

Re: dual inputs at amp and dual outputs at chorus pedal

Sounds like a good outcome.I use an Analog Delay with a stereo out at the end of my signal chain. Wow/Volume ,Parametric EQ/sustain,then the delay. The delay is slightly duller in one of the outputs[the delayed output] and this goes into one channel of the amp and the other output into the other channel.I then set the amp to match the two signals or set the delayed out put slightly brighter.
The EQ/Sustain also can be used as a pre-amp as it has a gain control too.
I don't use any distortion pedals, just go for clean and loud .

Re: dual inputs at amp and dual outputs at chorus pedal

^cool. you going for a clean, loud...cult sound?;)
btw now i need to experiment with my phaser into one half, this way i can get a half-wet phase sound like van halen did:D:):biglaugh:
