Duality Pickups

Duality™ humbuckers dispel the notion that you can’t have your cake and eat it too. The Duality architecture revolutionizes pickup design, combining passive voicing and active dynamics into one. These pickups simultaneously deliver a strong midrange, punchy and articulate lows with a three-dimensional high end. The feel is responsive, providing an organic experience that plays as good as it sounds. The output is incredibly versatile; powerful and tight enough for metal but open and clear enough for blues and rock. And unlike traditional active pickups, Duality’s unique, hybrid design brings the same tonal flexibility as passive pickups with the added benefits of an on board active preamp.

how are these different from the new EMGs pickups or what Fishman has been doing with Fluence?

Re: Duality Pickups?

Wow! I've been waiting for something like this.

How do they work? Like normal EMG/Blackouts? I mean, what is hybrid design, exactly?

Re: Duality Pickups?

I just saw on the site that these use Alnuco 2 magnets. I've always wondered how that would sound with an active design.

Re: Duality Pickups?

After hearing a Keith Merrow clip, my first thought was that it has some similarities to the Distortion and 81, without sounding exactly like either. Mixing an A2 with low magnet pull and an active preamp needs to be done more often! I don't think that the Livewires Classic was ever particularly marketed well.

Re: Duality Pickups?

Wasn't that the "custom shop blackout" thread from 08/22/16?

Are all the Duality components made in the US?

Yep, the Duality pickups are completely made in USA, and this project has been in development since well before we became aware of the EMG Retroactives. Great minds think alike? :33:

Re: Duality Pickups?

If anything, these seem like Fluence competitors.

I hear ya.

Especially as the Duncan company passed on the Fluence tech before it was presented to Fishman. Hasn't Duncan lost some artists, going to Fishman for the Fluence? Think this might be an effort to gain relevance in that niche, now that Fishman and EMG have put their toes in the water?

Will be interesting to hear what independent evaluations have to say about a comparison of all three products.

Re: Duality Pickups?

nobody can compete with Fishman -
Technology = proprietary multiple voice technology
Cost = stacked PCB magnetic coil vs. wire windings.

Fishman is in the race alone. The question is will they be able to gain enough market share to make the Fluence product financially viable.

Re: Duality Pickups?

Ask Max about them in the official thread. I am sure he can explain the differences.
