DuckBuckers?

Hey there,

Has anyone had any experience with this pickup? Im lookings for a neck singlecoil that when overdriven has a smooth open kinda sound and a bouncy sensetive sound clean. Im thinking about the Duckbucker because its noise cancelling and has a good output to match my bridge humbucker. Any help appreciated and thanks in advance.

I am thinking a Cool Rail might be a better match if you have a high output humbucker in the bridge. The "Duck" is not what I would consider high output. It's closer to a stock output pickup but with dual coils.

duckbucker i have on the neck of my strat, its a glassy single coil sounding pickup with low output, very nice for clean, very tempermental with distortion but i love the hot top end treble that kicks out with some screaming overdrive, but its certainly not smooth sounding, think jimi hendrix and SRV

Thanks for you help. My only problem with a coolrails is that im after a real single coil tone. Is that asking to much? Or is there a singlecoil out there that has a good amount of output but sounds like a real single coil? Im going for the tone on funky monks by the red hot chili peppers thats the song they did for waynes world.

No it doesn't! :laugh2:

It's a cool and useful pickup though. Jennifer Batten (guitarist with Jeff Beck) uses them.

I'd look into the Classic Stack or wait a little while for the new Duncan Noiseless Strat pickups to hit the market later this year.

There is no release date, price or even name for these new Noiseless Strat pickups yet...but I've tried them and they are excellant.

Kind of like a noiseless version of the Antiquity Surfers in a way...though no humcancelling pickups can sound exactly like a vintage style single coil.

well, unless you have supersonic ears it sounds just a like a single coil, i have many single coil guitars and have the duckbucker on the neck of my strat and if it wasnt for the lack of buzzing id have no reason to believe it was a humbucker. it really sounds like nothing even closely related to a humbucker, it only has 6 pole pieces, i will argue this till the end of the earth, so we will have to agree to disagree. :burnout: :laugh2:

The one sure way to find out if you like them is to buy a set and try them out. You might like them. I've tried them and did not like them at all. They didn't stay in my strat long at all. In my opinion, they have a very flat, sterile sound and they are very low output. If you want a single coil sound, get true single coils and shield your guitar to reduce the hum.
