i was thinking of the gray suff =) hehe.. well i would imagined that it would not work, since its to thick... ey what do you mean by aluminum ducting tape?

Get that...thats what I've used on all my Strats and I love it. I recently sold a full on loaded pickguard I had made up myself with one of those shields, the guy that bought it remarked about how much less noise there was...I mean it ain't silent but it does cut down on noise!

Duct tape is grey but it is non-metallic and non-conductive.
Something you can do real easy is to buy a can of spray adhesive and some extra thick tinfoil. Spray the tinfoil with the adhesive and lay the pickguard on the foil. When dry cut away the excess foil. You can even double the layers of foil to get more complete shielding.

Like i said, i once lined a teles electronic routes with the metal duct tape from Home Depot with pretty good success... i assume aluminum foil with spray glue would work just as well... but one thing i've always wonder is if the contact of different metal types causes any troubles

The type of metallic tape that you use to repair gutters is called flashing tape. Flashing tape has a plastic covering which is very hard to solder.
