Duncan Broadcaster Set....

Hi all,

I just bought a 2008 Fender Am. Std. Tele. It had need sitting in the local store for a few years. While I like the stock pickups, they don't give me the tone I'm really looking for. I am interested in the Duncan Broadcaster set; which I believe comes with an STL-1b and an STR-1. I have used all kinds of Telecaster pickups but never these two. The body of my Tele is alder with a rosewood fretboard. The bridge is the stainless steel bridge with the 6 vintage style saddles; like on a Strat.

What can I expect out of these pickups?

Re: Duncan Broadcaster Set....

It will sound like an early to mid 1950s Telecaster. It will sound like a Tele should. A little more brightness and twang than recent-era overwound pickups allow. You can always get back to that 'modern' sound by rolling the tone off. But you'll want to replace the whole wiring and electronics at the same time. Use CTS pots and replace any 'Greasebucket' tone circuits or treble bleed circuitry along with the pickups.

Re: Duncan Broadcaster Set....

The Duncan Broadcaster is a cool sort of fat/nasty Tele style pickup but it's not a vintage Tele/Broadcaster tone.

It's a vintage like tone I've you don't know what a Broadcaster sounds like.

What tone are you looking for??

Re: Duncan Broadcaster Set....

The SD Broadcaster is a little edgy but you might want something alnico III and wound semi hot...

Compare to CS Nocaster, SD Broadcaster would give you more edge than bigger-fatter-bolder. You may want overwound Broadcaster like what Rob DiStefano offers with his Cavalier pickups. Maybe something in between Fat Lion and Nashville Lion.

Hmmm, I know Rob. I'll go to his site and check them out. Thanks....
