Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

Guys, I am getting mad finding my tone, Helpppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have tried :
JB: Lacks tight bottom end.
Distortion: Tight( but compressed bottom end) due to the ceramic.
Alt8: Great bottom end, but mids are very smooth and will not cut thru the mix in any way, highs are tamed a bit too.
custom: Great Bottom ( full and not compressed as the distortion) great highs, but the mids are really scooped compared to DD or JB, will get lost in the mix, great for playing like a master of puppets album tone.

I need a pickup that Has the Full Bottom of the ALT8 or duncan custom ( without being compressed as the DD, with the sweet high mids of JB( to cut thru the mix without being unheard) with smooth highs like the duncan custom, and not being harsh as the DD , or tamed like ALT8.

What is the pickup I should go for now???

Recommendations SD Users , I hate EMG's And Dimarzio's by the way. both sounds sterile to me.

Use the JB and replace the screws under the three wound strings with allen head screws like on a full shred. It'll tighten up the bass.

Put your initial thread into an email to the custom shop, I can't see you being satisfied with any production model after reading your post.

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

Let me know when you figure it out. I want a distortion with the alt -8's lowend

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

When you say the Custom is scooped are you talking about the Custom SH-5 w/ceramic mag? Maybe it`s just my ears but I don`t find it scooped at all

Compared to a DD or ALT8 , it think it is scooped. but compared to SH2n or 59 it is not scooped. Ain't I right ?

Re: Duncan Custom Alternatives without being scooped.

Maybe it seems scooped cuz the Custom has very prominent thumpy bass and lots of presence in the high end as well...it might just seem that the mids took a nosedive because the bass and treble are more in your face than the DD?

The custom isn't very scooped at all though. You want scooped, listen to the Custom 5. That said, from the sounds of what you're looking for, Custom 8 might be right up your alley.
