There are so many things that affect tone. Cables, wood, pots (pots turned up or down, tone caps.)

The blackjack is a tele shape, right? Do they use 250 k pots in it? 0.22 uF versus 0.47 tone cap?

Do you know for sure those are the correct pickups? Did the guy at GC tell you? Lots of guys at guitar center have told me things that are flat out wrong.

lol you mean .022uf right lol .22 would be huge lol i use .022 capacitators on my tone.... you mean capacitators... right lol i hope you do

i have all dimarzio hardware... dimarzio multipole 5-way switch...push pull tone pot... yeah..

Re: Duncan Designed HB-102 sounds better than a Duncan JB!!!!!

There is no such thing as better. I think what you mean is that it works better for you and your rig and your hands.

Re: Duncan Designed HB-102 sounds better than a Duncan JB!!!!!

^They make blackjacks in multiple shapes, but I suspect the difference is in the wiring. However, there are several other things that it could be...

Scale length: Not all the blackjacks are the same scale length and not all the C1s are the same. If I recall correctly, the C1 Blackjack is 25.5" and the C1 Elite is 24.75". That's just off the top of my head so I could be wrong, but it's a possibility.

Wiring: The blackjacks use different components (pots, caps, switches) than the C1 Elite and that could have something to do with it.

Also, are you sure it was an hb102, not 103? Schecter has gone back and forth between 102s and 103s on some models the last few years.

Dude they use the HB-102's...check the website...the C1 FR uses the HB-103's.

As far as I know they have 2 HB-102s

Re: Duncan Designed HB-102 sounds better than a Duncan JB!!!!!

Now i might just bypass this whole thing and just get the C1 Hellrasier with EMGs lol

It is common to use the abbreviation "cap" for capacitor. Sorry for the decimal point being off.

Re: Duncan Designed HB-102 sounds better than a Duncan JB!!!!!

I say the difference in tone is the different guitar, that you should buy it, then put a JB in there. Then you'll know for sure if it was the pickup difference. If you end up not liking it, you can sell it to me for half price. : )

Re: Duncan Designed HB-102 sounds better than a Duncan JB!!!!!

I own a Schecter Artist (duncans) and a C1+ (Duncan Design) basically the same guitar.. sound identical.. Sorry to step on any toes.. If you got DD in your ax now.. unless you want to radically change the tone..your gonna waste your money by putting in the Duncan equivalents.. any difference that you may experience is your sitting position cuz your wallets a bit thinner

Oh, btw...do emgs work well with metal and punk?

Yes, but they sound a little more sterile than passives. If you want something that really kicks serious @$$ for your style, and is less sterile, go for the Schecter C1 blackjack ATX, it comes stock with SD blackouts, and even has the string through feature you want.

Re: Duncan Designed HB-102 sounds better than a Duncan JB!!!!!

i currently have an HB103B in the bridge of my SZ520 and I swear it sounds just as good as my SD Distortion
