Duncan direct to body mounting screws

I bought a guitar with some Duncans in it, I changed them out and found whoever had installed them had found the perfect screw for direct mounting duncan singles/stacks.

The thread pitch was perfect, it threaded through the pickup's mounting holes, then it had a smooth section towards the head of the screw allowing it to spin inside the mounting holes. Perfect for direct moutning. I should've taken a pic or taken one to a fastener store. Anyone have idea what I'm talking about and where to find them?

I may have to pull the pickups again just to source the screw, it made it so easy to direct mount singles.

i have some very similar screws, maybe 1" #2 round head wood screws? i got mine from fastenal. if i remember, ill try and dig them out and confirm what they are

Has anybody tried using screws with small enough diameter that they don't screw up the thread in the pickup leg?

I use machine screws with threaded inserts. They are small enough to pass right through the holes without damaging the pickup.

yes, thats what i do. the screws are small enough to go through the hole without messing up the threads

Bring a pickup to the hardware store and find one that fits throught the pickup hole.

It is amazing that in almost 2026, there is not a universal easier way to do this.

Right. Ideally, you would change how it is mounted altogether, which might change how the guitar is routed, which would cost a lot of $$, and traditional players (let's face it, most of them) wouldn't dig it.
