Duncan Jazz & pots

I have a guitar with a Jazz neck model in the bridge. Single pickup, 500k volume pot, that’s it. I’d like to add a single coil to the neck spot, and I have both a generic Strat neck pickup and a Duncan Broadcaster pickup laying around. Would either of those sound okay with 500k pots, matched with the Jazz in the bridge? I’ll likely add a tone pot and have it be master vol/master tone/3-way toggle.

The Jazz is pretty dang bright. Not as bright as a wide open Strat pickup but way brighter than any other humbucker I have. Makes me think it could handle a 250k pot if needed… just thinking out loud, any input is appreciated!

Put a 500k resistor from ground to the switch position for the single coil

The pickup will see the pot as a 250
While the Jaz will still see the full 500

I'd probably put a 250k pot in there to sound better with either single and make the Jazz sound better (to me).

i agree, id swap to a 250k pot. itll help the single coil and tame a bit of the brightness of the jazz

250k for tone or volume?

well since you only have a volume at the moment, id start there. if/when you add a tone control, youll have a better idea of what value to use from the tone you get with the 250k volume

I'd probably go for 250k for both, but I also think the Jazz is really bright. I think it only sounds good to me with 250k all around.

I'd go for 250k pots if their taper is important. If the guitar is mostly played with all controls full up, 500k of resistance in parallel with a 500k pot should do the job as suggested by ehdwuld.

Or 300k pots?

That's what Gibson often mounted with T-Top's, after all...
