Duncan Mini-Humbuckers....

I really wish Duncan made a production mini-humbucker in an LP Deluxe style; complete with either a cream or black "P-90" ring. They make them in an Antiquity II version and, of course, Gibson makes them (Alnico 2 no less) and even GFS makes them and they're pretty darn good. It just never made sense to me, why SD always made the Firebird style but not the LP Deluxe style. Aside from their similar appearance, they're very different pickups.

I think The Antiquities and Custom Shop offer Deluxe Mini's? I suppose they reasoned that Firebirds are more popular than LP Deluxes?

Could very well be, and that's in addition to the possibility of a manufacturing cost factor that might be too high. What got me started on this was GFS. They are making minis with the rings. They even have ring kits to retrofit your existing mini-humbuckers.

GFS minis

I would love it it Seymour made a standard production LP Deluxe mini-humbucker...

I rarely like neck pickups, but one I do like is the Deluxe neck pickup. I would like to put one in a tele.

Re: Duncan Mini-Humbuckers....

I'm planning to do just that. I'm making a three pickup Tele with a Mini Humbucker in the neck, a Vintage Stack in the bridge and now I'm up in the air about the middle pickup.

I had one picked but several people told me it was a bad idea and eventually I wondered if they were right.

Re: Duncan Mini-Humbuckers....

Well, think about this...the Duncan SM-1, which is the Vintage for Firebird Neck streets for right around $88.

The Duncan Antiquity LP Deluxe style Mini Humbucker streets for right at $118.

Now, I know that is a $30 diffrence but for 30 little bitty bucks you get handwound, by Seymour tone in the style pickup you want...that beats any kind of GFS garbage, or the Gibson "reissue" anyday of the week.

Also, just to put it in a different light...the Duncan Antiquity mini Bucker is $118 street...the Gibson version is $114 street...so really what we're talking about is a difference of $4...

Re: Duncan Mini-Humbuckers....

the Antiquity mini is a great pickup!

with anything, if you want quality, you'll have to pay for it ... but over time, that quality will give you the most return in value and enjoyment

however, with the Deluxe style minis, I have a feeling that if there was enough demand, then it would be a production pickup

consider this: on the forum, which has some of the most knowledgeable SD users around, the threads about mini humbuckers usually have very few responses .. there's just nowhere near the knowledge base that there is for strat, tele, or humbucker pickups
