Duncan Mustaine Set swapped with EMG 66/57

Hello,

I've got the double neck Dean Mustaine signature guitar, which is equipped with his signature Duncan pickups. As stated on SD site, these pickups are close to SH4 JB/ SH2 Jazz set. The neck Mustaine pickup is OK, but I want warmer, quieter, and more vintage-vise pickup for bridge. I've been looking for a long time at EMG 66/57 set, and watching several demos. And it seems to me, that it is just the 50/50 mix between modern and classic

So what do you think: will this EMG set give me what I want, or should I better go with passive pickups, and chose there between 59s, Seth Lover's and others?

Thanks.

The bridge pickup is amazing, but you might find the neck too bright. If you specify exactly what you want from your guitar, we might be able to pin down something from the Duncan lineup to suit your needs, but with the information you've given, the Hotrodded Set is the best bet.

Hi Letus

I want from the guitar to sound like this:

Bridges: warm PAF-lile sound, without shrill overtones. Examples: Alnico 2 Pro, DiMarzio Anniversary PAF, DiMarzio Air Classic. The Mustane bridge pickup is quite biting, especially on the 12-string neck.
Neck: soft and bright, but not ice-picking or thin sound. Example: Duncan Seth Lover, Duncan Pearly Gates, DiMarzio Bluesbucker, etc.

As far as the guitar is fitted with active pickups, I'd like to go with active pups at first. As I can see from descriptions and reviews, 57/66 is the active set that may fit my needs. And if I can't manage out with active ones, I'll go with passive Duncans or DiMarzios.

If you insist on staying active, the 57/66 is great. I think the "PAF in an active" description is a bit of an exaggeration, but the 57/66 combo definitely sounds closest to what you are wanting. Just remember to switch out all of the electronics, since the EMGs use 25K pots, not 100K like the Mustaines.

the mustaine set is very similar to an active jb/jazz set

Never tried the Mustaines, but EMG 66/57 set are great. They are the perfect actives that can give you best of both worlds: PAF like tonality, power of actives. Makes it incredibly versatile to me.

Thanks. you've assured me, that I'm on the right way with 57/66. I want to go away from Mustaine set, because the bridge pickup resembles me of JB. And I don't like the JB pup, though Jazz is ok.
