Duncan Pickup Booster Pedal

Re: Duncan Pickup Booster Pedal

eh, they do exactly what they claim to

which seems to be a rarity in the pedal department

Re: Duncan Pickup Booster Pedal

I just tried one out last week. nice pedal!!!! It gives single coil pups a little more oooomph. I could see using two of them on a pedal board with different settings. I like the vintage paf setting. I will probably get one. I can see myself using one for the bridge pup with any of my strats. I find bridge pups on strats to be a little anemic. this thing willl fatten them up and boost them if you want. i didn't try it with a humbucker or a tele yet, so I have no comment in that area. Hope that helps. SD pickup booster: cure for the common single coil.

Re: Duncan Pickup Booster Pedal

oh let me just add that the gain is VERY noticable

i got a bassman 50 to distort using one

Re: Duncan Pickup Booster Pedal

Hmmm....this may be the way to go first before buying new pups for my Strat (since it's much less expensive).

I'm actually able to get a very good simulation of a Humbucker when using my SOD through the Valvetronix and the bridge pickup with the tone rolled off slightly...but the SOD makes the amp lose some "character" for lack of a better term.

I think I'll snag one of these for Xmas. Thanx for the info folks :D

it's more effective for single coils, i only use it for my strat... :burnout:

I tried the booster with single coils and it was sweet, but I didn't get a chance to try it with a humbucker. Does anyone have any experience with the SD Pickup Booster with a humbucker? What does it sound like in comparison with it used with single coils? Is there enough gain when used with HB's?

Re: Duncan Pickup Booster Pedal

I've used it with both single coils and humbuckers. With my current humbucker (gibson '57 classic) It gives a good amount of boost for solos, I think it almost creates too much signal going into my Pro Co Rat when I have the distortion all the way up, might be even worse with a higher output humbucker.
But I loved it for single coils, I think i'm gonna try putting the Booster after my distortion pedal in the chain and see what the effect is then.

Rock On :smoker:

Thanks Kac, It's either the SDPB or the Barber LaunchPad.

OK, I tried the booster with a moderate output humbucker and liked it. Obviously there isn't the same drastic increase as a single coil. Any other forum members out there who use it with humbuckers, feel free to opine. :13:

Re: Duncan Pickup Booster Pedal

I used it with a JB and a Custom on either an Ibanez 550 or 570, and it just gives you a little more boost, and makes things more clearly defined. I also only use it on the lowest setting with those pickups. With singe coils, I set it at about 10:00.

Re: Duncan Pickup Booster Pedal

I really like this pedal alot....I use mine for soloing and a boost with my single coil pickups, mainly for the bridge position....The pedal does what it's supposed to do and offers 3 tonal flavors via the switch..

Re: Duncan Pickup Booster Pedal

I've not had too much time with one... do they bring out harmonics more with a particular setting?
