Duncan Pickup closest to a Gibson 500T

Hey guys. Ok, so I originally had 2 les pauls set up identically. 59N and Custom5 Br.

Since then, I've decided to make my standard my "vintage" axe, so that's got a set of 59s in it.

I want to make my studio my "hard rock" axe.

I'm keeping the 59 in the neck. What would make a good, fat, rocking pickup. Something along the lines of the 500t (which oddly enough, I don't hate...)

I'm thinking a Custom, or maybe a CustomCustom? Any advice would be great. thanks.

Nick

Are you stuck on Seymour Duncan? No reason you couldn't put a 500T in if you knwo that's the sound you're looking for.

thanks guys! Yeah, I think now its down to the Duncan distortion, or the Duncan custom.

Maybe I'll check out ebay for some used ones floating around...

Re: Duncan Pickup closest to a Gibson 500T

Normally I'd say the Custom, but a LP is going to darken up your tone, and the top end from the SH6 will even that out nicely.

I got a Custom in my LP, and I love it. Havent tried the Distortion, though.

But if you like the 500T, why not use one?

Well, I COULD use a Gibson Pickup, but then, that would be a *gasp* stock pickup. Hahaha.

I guess I'm a Duncan loyalist...Ever since I tried the 59 neck pickup. It just doesnt get any better than that for me.

I guess a cheaper alternative would be to try to score a ceramic mag, and throw it in the Custom5 that's in there now, making it a Duncan Custom. I have no experience with magnet swapping though. Can you get bad microphonic trouble if its done wrong?

where to score a ceramic mag is another question altogether...
