Duncan Pickup Question

I've got a guitar with a Duncan Custom in the neck and a Duncan Custom Custom in the bridge. I was hoping I could move the Custom from the neck to the bridge and replace the neck with a Duncan 59. I never usualy mess with pickups in my guitars so I'm kinda green when it comes to changing them.

Long stupid question made short...Can I move a neck position Duncan to the bridge or do I need a neck model pickup?

Thanks for the help you guys

Re: Duncan Pickup Question

There is no hard standing rule about that. I've put bridge pickups in the neck and neck pickups in the bridge. Give it a try and see if you like it.

Without any issues... Seymour actually recommends a ´59 neck model to balance out best w/ vintage single coils.

And ironically enough, the Duncan Custom IS a bridge model pickup with no corresponding neck model... but like the JB, some like to use it in the neck :D

Re: Duncan Pickup Question

Looks like the combination Hamer used in some models (don't remember which tho)
Kind of a weird choice IMO...

A custom/'59 combo works very very well. Enjoy...

Oh, and welcome to the forum... :)

Its the combo in the Monaco Elite. It's certainly to hot for me but I thought the Custom would be good in the bridge for the pop stuff I'm playing on right now.

Thanks for the advice

This is a cool forum

14k pickup in the neck???

Sounds like a recipe for pure mud to me...
Yeah, kinda of a weird choice to put a CC in the bridge paired with a custom in the neck... I often wondered why...

both are great sounding pick-ups in the bridge but paired this way?

Anyways, what ever sounds best for one's ears is the right choice...

Indeed...It's an odd combo. Sure are nice guitars none the less.

Re: Duncan Pickup Question

The Custom is a bridge pickup. I have no clue why a guitar comes OEM with a Custom in the neck??? The Custom is higher output that the CC which is in the bridge also. Why someone would do this is beyond me????? The Custom will do VERY well with a 59 in the neck but, the Pearly gates with a Custom in the bridge is to die for tone wise!!!

Re: Duncan Pickup Question

I actually asked Jol Danzig this question in person. He said that it was chosen based on his conversations with Mr. Duncan himself, just like all of Hamer's pups. He'll call him up with an idea, get a suggestion, try it out and then call back telling him what needs to be different. He was looking for something really hot. You also have to keep in mind that he's probably playing them through a Fender amp using very little gain.

Yeah, still something I wouldn't guess would work nice... You'd have to set the Custom quite low in the cavity while raising the CC...

However, this is definitely the way I'd put it if I had to use these two in the same guitar... imagine a CC in the neck! Mud city...
