Duncan pickups with mixed magnets?

Re: Duncan pickups with mixed magnets?

^I wonder if the sound will change over time, though...

Re: Duncan pickups with mixed magnets?

Well P90s have mags close to each other and opposing poles in a similar fashion. So that would make me guess that it would be ok.

No. The P-90 design is inherently flawed, so they all change tone with time. The nature of the beast. Although it'll take many years to really get noticeable, though.

Pretty damn cool if you ask me. Throw up a clip if you get a chance.

Here's a humbucker with both A2 and A5, one of each for each string, I couldn't decide between them so I told my custom winder to use one of each, it's highly patented so don't steal my idea without paying me mega royalties :)

Anyone seen the add for MAGFRAG?
Claims to have A2, A4 and A5 - "All Three Inside" 3RD POWER.COM. In the latest Vintage guitar magazine at back of issue, page 142, lower left corner. Looks like a Humbucker, slugs & poles, 4 bottom screws just like a 2 bobbin p'up would have.
There is something on the bottom plate, looks like screwed on advertising to me... Guess I'll google!

Same here. I dig it! Gonna have to try this out some time.

Yeah it's cool. A little more power, split is fuller, plus you can hear each type of mag. I'm a whole step down so it would be brighter in standard. I like having bass to my sound, I spent months trying to figure out how to do that. Eventually realized I had to tune down. Made d standard my main tuning and learned the notes.

The phone also makes it dark. My mic and interface aren't any brighter either so I just used my phone.

Pepe-
Yes, I saw it, while I've been around, read a lot, and tried many things, I still like a little bit of a newbie. I can absolutely see
what you mean about (extreme paraphrasing here) everything becoming one big mess of competing magnets turning into
a big recipe for mush, or worse.
In and of itself, on paper it looks great, but real life does not notice what looks good on paper.
Sorry, I did skip that page to go to the end as I thought I had a scoop! As far as ceramic spacers are concerned, that all seems like a bridge too far. 1: Find p'up's you like, HBuckers, S.Coils, a bunch. 2: Swap mags as needed, and 3: Play, no offense to anyone. I'm just as guilty as anyone, but since I joined 6 years ago, I have found all I need, some mag questions, other stuff that interests me, but my time is short, and It is time to go back where I started, and love the playing more than the gear.

Double thick A5s look awesome, I had to order some too.

Well... ok, I'm not a fan of A5 mags, let's get this out of the way first. I find'em to be "obnoxious", for the lack of a better word.

The double-thick A5 are about a 35% MORE obnoxious, quite a bit heavier on the lows and having very little to no response to picking and/or touch.

Imagine why I even avoid being in the same room with'em! ;)

But for the full-balls-to-the-wall, take-no-prisoners kinda player, they might be a more than acceptable option.
