Have had the sentient in the neck of my 93 KOA Carvin DC 127 for a few months now and picked up a Carvin DC 600 last week with a Liqufier in the neck and used it this morning for the 1st time live.
Here is my head to head assessment of the 2 pickups.
Both are Alnico 5 pickups and both are being marketed as pickups with a big tone that are quite versatile.
Now the similarities, both are really articulate and fluid running gain both have really nice articulate singing solo voices and both do some nice smooth cleans.
The Liquifier is noticeably hotter it's more compressed and also is a good bit darker it seems to split a little better and give a more convincing single coil tone.
The Sentient is definitely the cleaner clearer brighter and less compressed of the 2. Has a super nice bell like quality on really clean stuff that is lacking with the Liquifier but has a lot less body and meat also plus is on the weak and thin side in comparison tapped. Really sings in high gain mode with a very clear sweet singing tone.
The Liquifier is much more compressed and dark at higher gain than the Sentient is and has less sharpness and definition to the tone but is still a REALLY sweet pickup in particular for blues or a solid woman tone in rock.
Both are very cool pickups both will stay where they are but in the end if I could only have one it would be the Sentient simply due to the bell like tones and overall clarity.
Right now I have the sentient paired with an ALT 8 in my 127 hardtail and it REALLY plays well with that combo with fantastic tone when combined with the Alt. the Liquifier is paired with a Crunch Lab right now but it's very harsh and shrill to my ear and is coming out next week. I have a Gravity Storm incoming. It will be really interesting to see how those 2 play together as on paper they look like a perfect match with both being big round A-5 pickups on the darker side and the outputs seem to be a spot on match for a balanced tone. Will hit this again when I get the Gravity Storm in with a final assessment on that set up.
