Why are you looking for the wire guages? Not being funny or dickish here..
trying to gain a better understanding of pickups
i've been reading the "build your own custom/59 thread", and it seems that one of the characteristics of this particular hybrid is the pairing of mis-matched wire gauges
and other people have been making their own hybrid combinations, so i'd like to know more about why people might be choosing certain combinations, and seeing if i can identify a pattern, rather than continually making new threads asking "will a ???/??? sound good?"
Riddle me this:
If the '59 neck and Jazz neck both use 42, or the jazz vs. any other 'standard' paf for that matter, and the DCR really isn't much different, and using A5............
Why does the jazz neck sound so damn different?
Yes to both. It's very tight, even under a lot of gain which is why a lot of shredders use it for a neck pick up. It's not boomy at all, and is very articulate and clear. It cleans up great. The JazzN is a great pup all around.
Interesting info that I've also been very curious about.
Thanks Pepe for that bit of elusive info.
Anyone know what size and type of wire is in the Demon?
...and seeing if i can identify a pattern, rather than continually making new threads asking "will a ???/??? sound good?"
Interesting. So from that I could glean that SPN sounds tighter/brighter?
Two things:
1. the '59 uses Plain Enamel wire, the Jazz SPN (Single Poly Nylon) wire.
2. the coil geometry (the way the wire is layed into the bobbin) is different in both cases.
HTH,
